Kentucky ranked No. 50 by SBNation

Via BleacherReport

Last week SBNation posted their rankings of the 128 teams in FBS and they were the first ones to somewhat give Kentucky a good outlook on the season. So we got to show them some love and link it on KSR. SBNation places the Cats as a team on the rise with a top 40 finish as the goal. 7-5 would probably make that goal a reality.

Here’s where UK ranked amongst their opponents:

@ 5. Georgia

8. Auburn

18. Tennessee

22. Louisville

@ 23. Mississippi State

27. Missouri

37. Florida

@ 42. South Carolina

50. Kentucky

81. UL-Lafayette

@ 94. Vanderbilt

128. Charlotte

Syracuse.com had the Cats placed 66th while USA Today disrespected the team with a ranking of 77. I think 50th to begin the year with room to move up into that next tier as a young team matures seems pretty sound. Mississippi State at 23 seems kind of absurd though. What do you think of SBNation’s rankings?

The margin for error is razor slim. Beat the 3 below us + EKU, beat Mizzou and Fl at home is the only path I see to 6 wins. Unless Prescott is out at MSU , we aren’t beating Miss St in Starkvegas and we won’t beat SC 2 years in a row. Especially in Columbia. We aren’t yet close to the other 4. One clunker game and its 5-7 again.

Glad to see everyone is so optimistic in the comment section. 7 – 5. Maybe 8 – 4. It all depends on the D.

Only 3 teams return a QB and we will be able to put points up. We get to a bowl and possibly 8 or 9 wins only because its proven you have to be solid at QB to win in the SEC. If Towles plays better at that position every game we will win the east

Maybe, if Stoops doesn’t blow it again like he did last year.

50 should be looked at as a very large compliment and optimistic to start the season. I would think 77 is too low, so the truth is probably somewhere in the middle.

As the first poster said, margin for error is basically non-existent. Can’t give away a single game we are “supposed to win” and pray for game long sustained efforts against Mizzou, Florida, South Carolina. I’m hoping for 6 wins, but if I was putting money on it, would go for 5 wins and pray.

They could win 6 as long as they don’t throw in any clunkers like they did against Tennessee, LSU and Missouri + QB play has to be much better than it was last year to have a chance at a bowl game. Win the games you are supposed to and get a couple of upsets.

So we are favorite in 4 games? How many losses in a row did we finish last year with? 4 or 5?
