Kentucky Picked To Finish 6th In The SEC East

Via UKAthletics.com

The folks at Birmingham News have previewed football in the SEC for the past 70 years and today that preview dropped once again. In their research they polled all 14 Sports Information directors to get their take on how the SEC East would play out this fall. Well according to those SIDs, things aren’t looking too positive for the Cats. The predicted order of the SEC East, as posted on AL.com:

  1. Tennessee
  2. Georgia
  3. Florida
  4. Missouri
  5. South Carolina
  6. Kentucky
  7. Vanderbilt

Kentucky received three fourth place votes, two 5th places votes and one last-place vote to move back towards the bottom of the SEC. Last season the Cats finished fourth, just behind Vandy, ahead of Missouri and South Carolina. Without question they left some wins on the table as well. But I guess the SIDs from around the South expect that Kentucky can’t overcome a tougher schedule while Mizzou and USC instantly rebuild. No respect.

No respect?? Respect has to be earned, not given. Look at how little respect Stoops gets from the media. Win games or get someone else

No defensive line in the SEC, no chance to get out of the cellar. UK will go as far as their defense will take them. Long season coming, be prepared.
Have some fun this year, pick the time and quarter that Commonwealth Stadium emptied out and has less than 50% of the anounced gated attendance.
Will the season opener be sold out? What say you?
I can’t believe the program has been so mismanaged from the top down. In a couple years when Stoops is gone and the stories surface, Joker won’t look as bad.

And somehow a horrible Mizzou team will finish above SC and UK?

The big problem for UK Football is that the East is getting better. Florida and UT are both back. Georgia should get a bit better. South Carolina will also likely get better (not great, but consistently better than they have been the past couple years). That leaves Vandy and Missouri. 2 SEC wins a year + 3 non conference wins = 5 win seasons. UK has to spring one in conference upset per year or beat Louisville to get to a bowl in the foreseeable future.

The goal is to be better, and contend with teams in the East. And beat Louisville.

Of course. I’m just pointing out that the math for UK to consistently be bowl eligible is rough and getting rougher. All the teams they need to beat are improving and have better football history.

My suggestion is to drop the UofL game and pick up another non-competitive out of conference game.

It would also help to drop out of the SEC and get in the AAC, but that is financially not feasible.
