Kentucky opens as six-point underdogs against Missouri

The folks out in Las Vegas have spoken, and after an underwhelming victory over Vanderbilt last night, the Kentucky Wildcats will head to Missouri next weekend as six-point underdogs.

Vegas Insider was the first to release their opening line for the matchup:

Bet Online released their spread soon after, with Missouri actually coming in favored by seven points.

Sports Betting shared the same opening line:

What does the Big Blue Nation think. Fair? Or do the 6-1 Wildcats deserve a little more credit?

Defense specifically our secondary will be HUGE this game!! Probably the best passing qb we face all year. This kid is legit and definitely has a future playing on Sunday’s.
Just hope our offense shows up to play and we’re able to get some quality yards out of our passing game. Our defense should do fine but I still see Mizzou putting up 17-24 pts. The question becomes can we score more?? We cannot play catch up with a team like Mizzou, have to maintain a lead throughout the game and keep the pressure on their offense to keep up with us and trust our D to do what they do best!! Best of luck Saturday guys!! Hope our offense comes out swinging for the fences!!
    BBN!!

I agree UK’s defense is amazing but it the offense can’t score more that 21 points in the last 10 quarters of football that’s a serious issue!

Drew Lock is averaging less than 200 yards passing per game in SEC play. This will be the best defense he’s faced thus far. No, it’s not Georgia, who gave up 36 to a mediocre LSU offense. Meanwhile, Mizzou’s defense is paltry, giving up lots of points to all comers. UK will break out of its offensive slump, whether Hoak plays or not, and win by 2 TDs or more. Stop looking at Lock’s overall stats – he’s only been successful against non-Power 5 teams this season. Could be a lack of a running game. Whatever the case, UK wins this one, and more easily than this past week.

Fair given past 8 quarters of football by the offense. Defense has played awesome but offense not so much. If Stoops and Gran don’t open it up this game will be on them. If Wilson is the guy so be it but if not then Hoak needs a shot. What we can’t do is continue this same type of offense and hope to win.

When considering what Mizzou has done against SEC opponents. No. Mizzou doesnt score the same against SEC opponents and we will have the best defense they have faced besides bama.

Disrespect. A nearly top 10 team playing on the road at Mizzou, who hasnt won a conference game yet. Mizzou performs well against inferior opponents but Struggles against equal or superior competition. Should be a 3 point UK favor even with Uks offensive struggles. UKs defense is ELITE and once again will show why it ranks in the Tops in the country.

Fair line. Unless we get better QB play or a different QB, this season is going to turn for the worse.
Wilson is not a D1 QB. This team is too good for coaches not to admit it.

Disrespecting our defense and Benny for sure. Our offense needs to progress that’s why Vegas keeps betting against us! But somehow we win. We gotta stop being so frustrating from the qb position! We have all the pieces. I’d like to see Another qb get some snaps but this late in the season we have our guy. We’re a d wins championship kinda team, just need to stop the crappy turnovers, protect the ball, be tougher, and make some smart easy plays! Go cats!

People saying UK by 2 TDs are delusional. Cats are going to get roasted on the fast surface in Columbia. Vegas knows it. And anyone who’s paying attention and knows football knows it. Only a snowy blizzard saves us…keeping the score artificially low. Otherwise we just can’t put up enough points without a legit SEC QB. Missou hung half a hundred on Memphis in a half. UK couldn’t do that to Centre College.

Memphis is GARBAGE! The only team in the SEC that wouldn’t have a hard time scoring a lot against UK is Bama. UK has the 2nd best defense in the country for a reason. That defense will keep UK from getting “roasted” by anyone!

Drew Lock has 1 TD, 5 INTs in 3 SEC games played. He dominates weak competition. Even SC held him to 204 yards passing, 0 TD, and 2 INTs. But if you think him airing it out against competition like Memphis and Wyoming makes him “legit,” you’re in store for a huge surprise Saturday. Never mind a defense that allowed 37 to SC and 33 to Memphis. UK wins this going away, 28-13,

Hope we see Gunnar soon. He can hand off just as easy as Terry. Gotta stretch the field with passes to free up big run plays. We cant survive the Mizzou explosive offense without scoring every quarter.

He can’t run. Playcalling is the biggest issue.

I think Wilson got injured in the a & m game when that 325 lb lineman landed on him early in the game. If so perhaps he will be healed enough to throw the ball better with more accuracy against mo.

I’m not a Terry hater, but it may make sense to throw Gunnar in if we go down by a couple scores. Terry is great at running the ball and has been a decent game manager with Benny as a safety net, but he’s suffering from a case of the yips right now. Hate to see it. I was worried about him after the CMU game, and the coaching staff had some quotes about “scaling things down and putting him in a more comfortable position.” It worked at Florida and for the few games after. I’d like to see more of whatever they did after CMU please. Thanks.

    1. We HAVE to score first vs Missouri
    2. We have to play the best D we have played all year
    3. Chew up the clock in hopes for a 7 to 3 or 10 to 7 win.

Did Benny purposedly toss the ball at another player last game? I don’t want to see him lose his head during the game and get ejected.

Will be the best offense we have faced and worst defense. This is s game that you could build Terry’s confidence if Gran let’s him off his leash and throws something other than a screen pass. Missouri gives up more passing yards than any other SEC team. Oh snd we are better than the last few years and we have beat them I know for sure three straight years maybe 4.

    • jorgepancho
      4:39 pm October 22, 2018 Permalink

You are mistaken. Lock is averaging less than 200 yards per game in SEC play. Mizzou got some garbage points in blowout losses. UK hasn’t given up more than 16 in SEC regulation play. Mizzou will be fortunate to beat that number. And the Tiger defense is abysmal, with every team able to put up points. UK wins this by 2 TDs or more.

  20. Bluebloodtoo
    8:02 pm October 21, 2018 Permalink

Let’s see, UK has scored 14 or more points in every game this year. None of their opponents have scored more than 20 points. A 7 point spread seems unlikely given the previous stats. Especially when you consider that mizzou isn’t even ranked, but we’ve played ranked teams.

  21. Thetruthshallsetbennyfree

Show this to Benny and let him see where everyones saying he’s out of the race. He’ll get back to being disrespected Benny, run for 200 yards, 3tds and murder somebody that thought they could tackle him one on one.

Mizzou secondary is horrible. Time to run zone read with Wilson outside the pocket throwing to Conrad. This team is beatable but they are going to score. Still think Kentucky wins it 28-24

All the people on here saying UK 24-10 are kidding themselves. And please don’t try to throw shade for being pessimistic. The Cats have had a really hard time scoring going on 10 quarters now. 10! Idc how bad Mizzou’s defense is if you can’t complete easy throws on a bad run defense they will stack 9. At that point even The LA Rams would have a hard time running the ball. If they aren’t going to play Hoak. Play Clark the kid can move in space and can complete a 5 yard pass. I’m looking at you Eddie Gran, another sh*tty game called and you are the reason UK doesn’t have the best season in 4 decades. Stoops and House have built a legit top 5 defense. It’s a shame the offensive playcalling isn’t even in the same class.

Drew Lock has all of 1 TD (yes, just one) and 5 INTs in 3 SEC games played. While you may excuse his 142 yards passing vs. Alabama, that was the opponent who allowed his only TD. I personally don’t believe UGA is nearly as good as last season, giving up 36 to LSU. So let’s just compare our one common opponent – South Carolina. Drew Lock threw 2 picks vs. the Cocks, with only 204 yards passing. The notion that Lock will have a monster game vs. Kentucky is unreasonable. Unless Mizzou can somehow run the ball, it will be a long night for the Tigers. Meanwhile, UK’s offense will break out of its slump against arguably the worst defense in the SEC. Again, comparing common opponent South Carolina, while UK held the Cocks to 10, Mizzou allowed them 37. That’s practically a 4 TD difference. It was popular in the preseason to make this a winnable game for Missouri. But UK has proven to be much better. This line is based on preseason predictions, and not actual results. UK wins, 28-13.
