Kentucky Opens as 17-point Favorites against Vanderbilt

After the bye week, Kentucky opens up as 17-point favorites ahead of their home matchup against the Vanderbilt Commodores on Saturday. The over/under is set at 45.

Kentucky is 3-3 against the spread this season, covering against Tennessee, Mississippi State, and Georgia just last week. Meanwhile, Vanderbilt is at 2-3 and is 0-5 straight up on the season.

An interesting note when betting this matchup is the over/under. It’s a low total at 45, but both teams have combined to hit the under eight times this season, Kentucky going 1-5 and Vandy sitting at 2-3. It can be argued that the over has hit in Vandy games because their defense is giving up 35.4 points per game to opposing offenses. Where this total will hit is really depending on what Eddie Gran decides to do against the ‘Dores. Does he stick to the script that has this Kentucky offense struggling to build some confidence within the scheme, or does he spread it out to gain some confidence in his young receivers?

I would probably lean under, given the fact that asking Vanderbilt to score on this Kentucky defense will be a tall task, but I can’t really pinpoint where Kentucky’s offense will fall on the point total. Oddly enough this Kentucky offense covering 17 might be the safest play this week, despite being held under 20 points three times this season.

Go Cats, bet responsibly.

How is this offense going to score 17 points. Must be expecting a couple pick sixes.

The worst thing UK could do is blow out Vandy running the same offense we’ve seen through the first six games. Just like the two Pick Sixes against UT it would cover up the team’s problems on offense.

With over/under of 45 I’d bet the house on the under. These teams could play each other twice and the combined score still wouldn’t be over. Predicting a final score of 5-3. Cats defense gets a game winning safety.

Game will go to OT with the score 0-0. The Cats get a pick 6 in OT to pull it out. Both teams combine for under 100 yards passing. 99% of fans and 50% of the TV crew fall asleep by the 3rd quarter. Stoops in the post game show tells fans that the team just needs to get back to work and the coaching staff needs to get a few things cleaned up. States that this is a strange year and playing an SEC team each game is hard on everybody and poses unique challenges.

Y’all are crazy, but I get the reasoning behind it… Myself? I’m taking the Cats to cover the 17, might take the over as well. Remember, we put up 51 against Ole miss, and Vandy’s defense is worse. Hopefully Joey Gatewood is our Starter and Gran dials up some quality routes for our younger, much more talented WRs. CRod is our starting RB with McClain as our #2 back. Has there been any news on Smoke and when he might return? A 1-2 combo of Smoke and CRod is our best ground game right now. I wish they would move Torrance Davis back over to RB, that kid is a monster when carrying the rock. I think he could be what we thought Rose would be, except he’s faster than Rose and about 10 pounds heavier. He’s also much more polished as a RB than as a LB and would he able to get on the field quicker. I caution our fanbase to have a little patience with Gatewood, who hasn’t played a full game or started in almost 2 years, and his very first start is against UGA, #1/#2 defense in the country, and yes, Florida was able to have success throwing the rock, but their WRs are a different caliber than our current starters. Plus they hit a ton of Wheel routes to the RB out of the backfield who had a LB matched up with him. I think Gatewood will get better and better with every snap he takes, a few games from now (IF he becomes our full-time starter that is) We will see why he was a top-40 recruit in the country and the 2nd ranked DT QB.

You’re asking a lot of Gran to play his best players. Lol

On another note, I wouldn’t mind seeing Michael Drennen lines up in the backfield as a RB. Kid has a ton of skills, and we need to get the ball in his hands as much as we can, similar to Lynn Bowden

Plan on seeing Terri Wilson the rest of the year mate. Gatewood probably won’t sniff the field again this year. My reasoning? Never expect Stoops to do the obvious thing – he’s a stubborn SOB.

Agree with you 100% – definition of insanity is doing same thing and expecting different results. That’s exactly what we do on offense.

We have scored 13 points in 2 games. How can we 17 point favorites? Saturday, we will do the same things and somehow, this offense will get better? Until SToops either lets go of the offense or Gran learns how to call plays, they are not going to succeed.
