Kentucky makes ESPN’s Bottom 10 Rankings

Kentucky’s embarrassing loss to Tennessee changed the national narrative on the Cats quite a bit. ESPN’s Ryan McGee included Kentucky Football in his “Bottom 10,” a ranking of the most miserable fanbases, thanks to an assist from the basketball team.

5. The Cold Kentucky Rain (7-3)

A mere two weeks ago the nation was buzzing about the boys in blue and their chances of crashing the SEC title game and perhaps even bigger games beyond that. But the Wildcats lost to Georgia at home and followed that with their 17th consecutive loss in Knoxville, this time to a four-win Tennessee team. Meanwhile, the basketball team was run over by a truck with no brakes. Authorities say it had North Carolina plates, was painted dark blue and the driver looked like the Count from Sesame Street. Reports say he shouted, “One … two … three … four … five! The Coveted Fifth Spot goes to you, from K! UK! Bwahahahaha!”

Ouch. He ain’t wrong. Also on the list: Western Kentucky at No. 3 and Louisville at No. 10. Respect to McGee for pointing out that Louisville firing Bobby Petrino also contributed to Kentucky’s slump because we won’t get the season-ending joy of sending him out with a rout. Dangit.

Also going to predict a U of L win in football. Just got a bad feeling about this game at this point and time.

Man, if that happens, I wouldn’t know what to think. Hell, Middle Tennessee is better than UofL. Hell, and they have 7 wins. That would be worse than when we beat them with Lamar. So stop it please!

The garbage that passes for journalism these days… (referring to ESPN)

Tennessee can end their season 7-5 with all their losses to teams who are currently ranked in the top 15,w the exception of one loss to South Carolina. And we haven’t beaten them at home in years. But people were acting like that was a gimme game we blew.

I don’t know that we blew it but I also know we didn’t play as well as we had been. I felt folks were counting as an automatic win. This I know about the football team, there are no automatic wins.

Truth, the hype train was moving too fast for us. If you look at the raw numbers of our record and TN’s record, I can see why someone might think we could win. But if you look at what’s behind the numbers…who each team has played and where wins/losses are coming from, it’s not as clear. We were never going to beat Georgia but most people on this site really thought we had a chance. Too much hype for a team who is good but not great.

Exactly! They are playing much better so I think how they finish will say a lot also. GO BLUE!!!

I think it should be clarified that the #5 spot has always been honorary. That team is never one of the actual worst 10 teams in the country but just had a really embarrassing week. So the writer doesn’t actually consider UK to be one of the 10 worst teams, just maybe saying we had one of the 10 worst days on Saturday.

All you have to do is figure out how many points the defense will allow and you’ve got it, ’cause you KNOW the offense isn’t going to score.
