After starting out as a 13.5-point favorite in the season opener against Toledo at noon on Saturday, the Kentucky Wildcats have been bet down to an 11.5-point favorite as we inch closer to the opening kick.
According to Vegas Insider, the over/under is set at 61.5, which seems about right considering Toledo poured in over 40 points per game last season on offense (Kentucky averaged 26.6 points per game but against obviously tougher competition). However, statistics from a season ago can only tell us so much.
When taking a peek at ESPN‘s “PickCenter”, they predict a 56.7 percent likelihood that the Cats cover the spread against the Rockets.
As for the rest of the Southeastern Conference, here are the current spreads for those upcoming games.
What do you think of the spread? Does Kentucky cover? Who do you all have your money on?
Personally, I think both teams combining for over 60 points could be difficult, especially in the opening game of the year. Also, I would be tempted to pick Toledo to cover the spread if I were a betting man (which I am not), but I’ll obviously be rooting for an easy two- or three-touchdown victory.
