Another day, another commitment for Mark Stoops and the Kentucky Football staff. This afternoon, a class of 2021 outside linebacker from East Lansing, MI, Conner Long, committed to the ‘Cats via Twitter as a preferred walk-on. Long also received interest to join Michigan State as a preferred walk-on.

Clocking in at 6-foot-3, 205 pounds the dual-sport athlete was recruited by defensive backs coach Steven Clinkscale. Despite running track in high school and getting some college offers to compete at the next level, Long tells KSR he will not be running track at Kentucky.

Long says he will bring outstanding speed, size, and a motor that doesn’t stop to the field in Lexington, along with an undying will to win. Even though Long will come to UK with zero stars, he says Kentucky’s ability to recruit and develop the OLB position attracted him to Kentucky. Most notably, former two-star turned top-10 NFL pick, Josh Allen.

I look at guys like Josh Allen and I say to myself, ‘why can’t I be like him?'” Long tells KSR. “That motivates me, with [Kentucky] having the pedigree that they have at that position, it’s outstanding. I think UK is the best spot for me to blossom into a good player with the way they develop outside linebackers.”

Taking kids with the athletic traits needed then letting them develop and coaching them up.

As Bobby V says, “let the cake bake”.

Add some bulk in the weight room, redshirt, and by the time he is a Junior, he could have a shot. The film showed me a kid that is very raw, mid range in technique, but can close fast on the ball. It looks as he has the speed needed to eventually help out the defense in the SEC.

Stay at it, there is no reason not to think you can do it.
