Kentucky Extends Offer to John Schlarman’s Son

Mark Stoops is doing what he can to make sure there’s a Schlarman on the Kentucky sidelines for years to come.

While John Schlarman is fighting the hell out of cancer off the field, the son of Kentucky’s offensive line coach, Joe, is doing work on the high school football field for Lexington Catholic. Wearing his father’s No. 65 on the offensive line, he just finished up his freshman season with the Knights.

As the proud father patted his son on the back for a job well done, UK’s head coach ensured Joe Schlarman will always have a spot on the Kentucky football team.

What an incredible gesture by Mark Stoops. The eldest of Schlarman’s four children, Joe has a long way before he has to worry about college. He will never have to worry if there is a place for him at UK.

Help me understand how Stoops can comment on offering Schlarman? I’m not sniping. Happy for the family. Just surprised that Stoops said anything.

Why would he not be able to comment?

A coach cannot comment on a recruit until they’ve signed their LOI.

He didn’t mention him by name, that’s how. Yes, we know what he’s talking about but he didn’t directly say his name (or nickname), so it’s fine.

Stoops knows the rules to recruiting.

That’s how you send a message to someone you love. In both cases.
