The NCAA transfer portal just got a little more crowded.
Davoan “Day Day” Hawkins announced he intends to leave the University of Kentucky. Hawkins is the second UK defensive lineman to enter the portal Friday afternoon, following nose guard Cavon Butler.
A three-star recruit from Chaminade-Madonna High School in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Hawkins helped his school win a state championship not long after he committed to Kentucky over Miami and Oklahoma.
The defensive end spent two seasons in Lexington. A redshirt in 2018, last season he appeared in nine games. After recording a tackle for loss against Vanderbilt, his first career sack and forced fumble came on one play against Louisville. The strip sack wasn’t even the highlight of his season. That came while dancing on the sideline in the rain against Missouri.
A big personality, his charisma will certainly be missed in the locker room. It’s no coincidence he’s the second defensive lineman to enter the portal in one day. The Wildcats recruited four highly-touted defensive linemen to reinforce an already deep room. It was only a matter of time before a few players defected.
