Kentucky beats Eastern Kentucky (barely)

USATSI_8841101_154849602_lowres

I don’t think any of us expected this kind of battle, but at least the outcome was in Kentucky’s favor. After an ugly regulation, Kentucky beat Eastern Kentucky 34-27 in overtime. Yes, overtime. That score should show you how ugly it was. Oh boy.

Stay tuned for an interesting postgame…

Should have rushed the field. That was the only other embarrassing thing left to do. Pathetic display from coaching all the way down.

I have to admit. On that 4th down in the 4th quarter down by 7 with 2 minutes to go….I was shaking. Don’t convert that play (which we did) and our season is ruined on the spot. But then again, there are no ugly wins, just wins.

An FCS team that is pretty damned good. I know that’s hard for some of you all to take in, but it’s true.

That’s laughable. They are not good. NC State beat them 35-0, and NC State is not good as we saw today.

UK may have won on the scoreboard but EKU won the hearts. Playing against all the odds – fewer scholarships, a “move the decimal place” less money, away from home… and EKU was one play from winning. Tough for me – I bleed maroon AND blue…

Well, to be fair, Ryan Lemond is an idiot and the only contributions he ever makes on the radio show is pretty much repeating EVERYTHING Matt Jones says. It’s annoying. I think he was a parrot in a former life.

Either EKU played saved their best all season today or we just sucked today. The only good thing to come out from this is we were down two touchdowns and found a way to win. The bad thing, we made EKU look like an SEC team and ourselves look like an FCS team. Looked like they didnt want to be there and as coach Stoops said, UK was LUCKY. We did not deserve this win.

Hats off to EKU. They played a great game.

A win is a win. There is learning how to play, and there is learning how to win. Tonight’s game gave hope that we are finally learning how to win.

Towles didn’t have a good first half, but he came through when it counted.

    It’s a win. I’ll take it.

    Go CATS!

  21. Wow, seeing what UF is doing makes it even tougher that we lost such a close one.

So on the last play, I guess it was supposed to be a throwback to the QB. Anyone seen a highlight that shows who had him covered?

I just don’t get it. 3 years ago, yall didn’t give a crap who UK won or lost to. Now, we win, and you’re still butt-hurt! We have a coach that wins football games now. Bear Bryant ain’t crawling outta his grave to coach the Cats folks. Stoops is doing a great job, and the quicker you start supporting, the better off we will be.

  24. Andy

How many think Towles should still be the QB moving forward. At this point 5 games in, coaches have to keep him in but he is streaky. Yea we won but man , some of the sacks he took were totally on him and those interceptions -really? This game just aged everyone in the commonwealth by 50 years.

Exactly whatwasthat! Perfectly said. Patrick threw TD’s when we needed them. He isn’t perfect. But who is? He makes plays in crunchtime. He is a clutch player IMO.

I think Towles should be the QB for the rest of the year. so there is at least one fully committed Cats fan that believes in him.

    • BigBlueBlowUpDoll
      11:59 pm October 3, 2015 Permalink

I agree. All I really saw from him tonight was he was a bit unaware.of his surroundings at times (sacks), but if his line did their job, the sacks probably wouldn’t have happened.

    • SCCat
      12:02 am October 4, 2015 Permalink

I think he can make throws that we need, and has a developing chemistry with the receivers, particularly Badet, Johnson and Baker. We are in a very favorable place right now – and we might look back and remember that Towles led us to something really special. Keep the faith, and GBB.

Someone feed the slow fat defensive line some more twinkies. And that left offensive Tackle.. lets get him some roller skates so he can at least scoot out of the way of the Defensive rush just a split second quicker… Its crazy, we can blame the QB and backs all day long.. but for christ sakes.. did we even get a sack? did we have a pass attempt that wasnt rushed? Wake up…. our interior line got their asses whipped.

  27. whatwasthat

EKU played lights out, great game by them. Patrick played well, but our offensive line and running backs just were not getting it done, Kemp and Horton just couldn’t get anything going, if not for the sacks Patrick would have been Leading rusher, not good.

To many haters, bottom line Kentucky did play poorly but they keep fighting and showed truck loads of heart coming back and pulling out the win. It says so much for we’re Kentucky’s program is at and were its going. In the past Kentucky would have lost. Look at the games we have played this year and we could have caved and lost everyone. We could easily be 0-5 right now but the losing mentality is gone and instead of finding ways not to win we have found ways not to lose. I am very proud of our guys and love the direction Coach Stoops has our program going. Tired of all the negativity and downing our boys. If someone is a true die hard fan they would show support and be encouraging our team not constantly picking at them and talking trash. Pitiful how so called fans run there mouths and down the young men that are out there playing. Bottom line if anyone that’s talking the trash can do better than our guys on the field you would be out there doing it not leaving comments bashing there hardwork and all they are doing to restore our program. Great job CATS thanks for all your effort and heart you show week in and out.
