Josh Allen named Butkus Award finalist

Josh Allen has been named a finalist for the 34th annual Butkus Award, given annually to the best linebacker in college football. The other finalists are Devin Bush, Michigan; Tre Lamar, Clemson; Dylan Moses, Alabama; and Devin White, LSU.

On Saturday, Allen broke Kentucky’s single season (13) and career sacks (27.5) records. He leads the SEC and ranks third nationally in sacks and leads the league and ranks 11th nationally in tackles for loss (17.5). He also ranks second nationally in forced fumbles (five). He leads Kentucky with 80 total tackles and has five QB hurries, four pass breakups and two fumble recoveries this season.

Allen has been named SEC Defensive Player of the Week four times this season. He’s also a finalist for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy (National Defensive Player of the Year); a semifinalist for the Walter Camp National Player of the Year and the Chuck Bednarik Award (National Defensive Player of the Year); and a quarterfinalist for the Lott Trophy (National Defensive Player of the Year).

He’s also up for the Lott Impact Player of the Week Award and could use your vote:

The winner of the Butkus Award will be announced on or before December 6.
