Preseason accolades continue to roll in for Kentucky’s Josh Allen.

Named a second team All-SEC selection by the SEC media, today the outside linebacker was put on the watch list for the 2018 Dick Butkus Award.  Given to the nation’s top linebacker, Allen was a Butkus Award semifinalist in 2017.  This year semifinalists will be named October 29, finalists November 19, and winners will be notified on or before December 4.

Last year Allen recorded 65 tackles, 9.5 for loss, 7.0 sacks, a team-high four quarterback hurries, three pass breakups, two forced fumbles and one interception.  Allen’s 2018 goal is 12 sacks, a number that would tie a single-season record and break Oliver Barnett’s career sack record.

The preseason accolades are piling up for the Kentucky football team.  Who will have the most award nominations?

Benny Snell — First Team All-SEC, Maxwell, Doak Walker
Josh Allen — Second Team All-SEC, Butkus, Bednarik
Mike Edwards — Second Team All-SEC, Bednarik
C.J. Conrad — Third Team All-SEC, Mackey, All-State Good Works Team

Preseason accolades are fine for the players. For me as a fan, just win.
