Josh Allen had IV in his arm before rushing back onto the field to help end the streak

Kentucky linebacker Josh Allen is one of the most dominant defensive players in the country, and his numbers back that up already this season. He already has 15 tackles, good for fifth in the SEC, and two sacks, good for third in the conference.

He’s also a big reason the Cats pulled off a 27-16 victory against the Florida Gators last night, pulling off a strip-sack of Feleipe Franks in the game’s final seconds.

And if it weren’t for some inspiration from one of his teammates, he may not have been in position to make that massive play.

He was actually in the locker room receiving an IV for cramps until he saw Lynn Bowden’s 54-yard touchdown reception to give Kentucky a 21-10 lead over the Gators. It was that play that gave him the motivation to rush back onto the field.

“I had to leave the game earlier because I was cramping a lot. I had to go back and get an IV,” he said. “And when I saw Lynn score, man I knew I had to come back. I knew if I came back, I had to start making plays so we could really finish this game.”

And that he did. With his help in the second half, Kentucky knocked off Florida and ended the streak.

If you ask Allen, it was exactly like they drew it up.

“We practiced for this, we prepared for situations like this,” he said. “The better team won.”

Allen’s performance was worthy of a second-consecutive Lott IMPACT Trophy nomination, an award given to the best defensive performer each week. He is currently leading by nearly 500 votes, but if you want to solidify the victory, place your vote below:
