Jaleel Hytchye and Dorian Hendrix are transferring

Sources tell KSR that junior cornerback Jaleel Hytchye and redshirt freshman linebacker Dorian Hendrix will transfer.

Hytchye was Mark Stoops’ first commitment from the state of Ohio. He played in eight games as a true freshman in 2013, recording a career-high seven tackles in his first start against Georgia. Since then, he’s been fallen down the depth chart. Hendrix was a three-star recruit and redshirted his freshman year. He was listed third on the post-spring depth chart at middle linebacker, alongside transfer Courtney Love.

Both Hytchye and Hendrix have started following coaches from other schools on Twitter, Hytchye South Alabama, Georgia State and UNC Charlotte and Hendrix UNC Charlotte.

A UK spokesman has confirmed the report. Best of luck to them both.

I saw Matt tweet this out a little bit ago … crazy … heard 2 guys were leaving this morning and I’ve seen a lot of bad guesses … nobody even guessed either of these guys. Guys are going to leave if they drop too far down the depth chart. Does this affect how many guys we’re allowed to have in our 2016 class?

Hytchye came in and did not redshirt, he’s been playing for 2 years. The fact is he wasn’t able to beat out Tiller and Quinn for their jobs after a couple of years, he’s behind them going into his junior year regardless of what the true freshman are doing now. Hendrix would have been in the rotation this year with our current linebacker situation.

Hate to see the Cats losing a linebacker. Already thin enough as it is at that position.

So you have to think… if we’re that thin and he is not listed very high on the depth chart, maybe he isn’t up to Stoops’ standards.

Is it because they didn’t tweet about the Saturday night practice like coach asked??

I’m sorry that your life is at this point. Best of luck with your future.

When things like this start happening you know you are getting better as a team. Good luck to both young men.

I guess it is a good sign when 3-stars start transferring because they can’t get enough PT, but at the same time, it leaves us even thinner at LB this year.

When you sell playing time, your recruits are going to want to play. It was clear that these guys weren’t going to get that chance very easily so they are moving on. To be expected really

Good luck to them both in their future endeavors.

Let this be an example that just because there is the potential for early playing time doesn’t mean it is given automatically. If somebody comes in behind you and works harder, then that is when preparation meets opportunity and they might have lost their motivation to outwork their competition.

I would have to agree that 3 star players transferring out to mid major colleges is probably a sign that competition to start is getting tougher. This is a good sign. I also wish the best of luck to both players.

Jaleel Hytche’s 2013 offer sheet, according to rivals:

    Kentucky
    Arizona St.
    Ball St.
    Boston Coll.
    Cincinnati
    Indiana
    Kent St.
    Louisville
    Northern Illinois
    Northwestern
    Penn St.
    Pittsburgh
    Purdue
    Tennessee
    Toledo
    Vanderbilt
    W. Kentucky

    Dorian Hendrix’s offer sheet:

    Kentucky
    Bowling Green
    Buffalo
    Illinois
    Indiana
    Ohio
    Toledo

Simply put, Stoops has upgraded and recruited over these guys. It’s a good problem. 2015’s class was severely underrated if you look at some of the offers these kids got. DB’s Baity and Westry and LB’s Josh Allen, Jordan Jones, and Eli Brown all look to play over some of the Redshirt freshmen this year.

Best of luck to them, but the is a great sign for great things to come.

Both were nearly 4 stars per Rivals [5.7 for both] and Hytche was a 4 star on ESPNs rankings. Just shows how much talent and depth Stoops is building. Both seemed like great kids and I wish them well.

Absolutely. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to go where they can get playing time. They only get one college football career.

Now seems like a weird time to be transferring; it’s right before the start of school/football season. Oh well, good luck to them.

If they waited any longer and school started, it would affect when they are eligible to play.

    • J-Dub421
      4:44 pm August 24, 2015 Permalink

Why wait until now though. Why not transfer at the beginning of the summer?

Because the outlook on how much playing time you’re going to get becomes much clearer after camp.

  13. I hate to hear that especially about Jaleel. He became my favorite player when he said a UL coach called him up to try to get him to flip, and the coach said “We’re going to bowls” and Jaleel said “We’re going to bowls”, and the coach said “We’re winning championships” and Jaleel said “We’re winning championships”. It was great!

My guess is that with Hendrix transferring Love’s request to play this year has been approved by the NCAA and UK just hasn’t announced it yet. I hope this is the case anyway!!

That’s likely. Running with the 3rd team means you will see some action. Being bumped down to 4th means you’re hanging out with the redshirt freshmen.
