Let me tell you one thing I learned while being in South Carolina, Kentucky needs Grove Street Party. Kentucky needs Grove Street Party and they need it now. Every great program has its song or tradition, and this needs to become ours. There are many reasons for this, but the biggest reason is the players and fans love it. The song needs to be played after every touchdown, and it needs to start this weekend. Lets take a look at other programs and their traditions they use during the game to get the crowd pumped up:
South Carolina– “Sandstorm”
I was able to experience this kickoff song over the weekend and it was one of the best environments I have ever seen. The entire student section had a choreographed towel waving sequence. Every person in that stadium had a towel and knew what to do when it was time to kickoff. Even at the bars on Friday night; when Sandstorm was played, the place erupted.
Wisconsin– “Jump Around”
This is another amazing college tradition. This song is played between the third and fourth quarter and the entire place loses it. Everyone in the stadium is jumping even the opposing players seem to love it.
Tennessee– Lil Jon & “Third Down for What”
Although I believe this song is very corny (wouldn’t expect anything less from Tennessee) their fans love it. Lil Jon is a big Tennessee fan and remixed his popular song ‘Turn Down for What’ into ‘THIRD Down for What’…clever I know. I saved everyone the trouble by not posting the song, but it is just another example of a tradition that the home fans love.
Florida– Gator Chomp
Georgia– Barking on Kickoffs
Notre Dame– Shipping up to Boston
The list can keep going, but lets turn our attention and focus on Kentucky.
Kentucky– Grove Street Party
This needs to be our song, and it needs to be played after EVERY TOUCHDOWN. A recruit will be coming to sold-out Commonwealth Stadium next week for one of the biggest games in the Mark Stoops era, and he needs to be greeted after the first touchdown with Waka Flocka and 65,000+ fans bopping. This shouldn’t be a song that is played randomly once a game, it needs to be played all the time because we need it more than anybody. Tweet UK, write a letters to Mitch Barnhart, whatever it takes to get this song as ‘The official song of UK Football.’ I want opposing teams and fans to think about our Grove Street Party tradition once they lose in the new Commonwealth. I mean, how does this video not give you chills? You can even see me on the sidelines losing it…
