One of Kentucky’s most explosive playmakers will be absent from the lineup for “a few weeks.”
Mark Stoops revealed Monday afternoon that running back Kavosiey Smoke suffered a rib injury when he was taken down from behind against Ole Miss. Stoops did not get too specific, but noted it was a combination of broken ribs and damaged cartilage.
Through less than two games Smoke had 91 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries (7.6 yards per carry). The timetable for Smoke’s return is fluid, but he’s expected to miss at least a couple of games. “It’s a pretty painful injury. He’ll be out for — it just depends how long he’ll be out. We’ll see how the pain goes,” Stoops said.
Wide receiver Bryce Oliver traveled to Auburn but did not play. Despite warming up for Saturday’s home opener at Kroger Field, the starting wide receiver did not see any snaps. “He’s close,” Stoops said. “Hopefully h’ell be out there with us this week (against Mississippi State). We feel like he will.”
