Before summer training began in Lexington, UK freshman wide receiver Akeem Hayes trained with NFL stars in South Florida.
A 5’8″ slot receiver from Hollywood, Florida, Hayes was wide-eyed at UK football media day when he talked about the time he spent with Antonio Brown and Todd Gurley. Two of the most explosive playmakers in the NFL, the outgoing 18-year old was not too star-struck to crash Brown and Gurley’s party.
“Me and Antonio are from the same area,” Hayes explained. “I guess Todd Gurley was working out with Antonio. I had seen them at a local park working out one day, so I decided to put my cleats on and go workout with them.”
Many amateur athletes will spend stupid money to workout at state of the art training centers. All Hayes had to do was grab his cleats and head to the local park to train with the Madden NFL 19 cover athlete.
“It’s eye-opening. It’s a blessing to workout with the best wide receiver in the NFL,” he said.
It’s never easy for freshmen to get on the field. It doesn’t help that he’s also one of the shortest players in the wide receivers’ room. It’s a good thing he learned some secrets from Antonio Brown, ones he’s not willing to share.
“I learned a lot, but I can’t really put it in detail. I can’t get rid of the secret formula.”
