How Mark Stoops’ Program Building Compares to his Predecessors

The Mark Stoops era of Kentucky football has been fun. Nobody can doubt that, especially when you compare this run to the not-so-good ole days of UK football.

Since Mark Stoops arrived in 2013, many records have been set. At the conclusion of the 2019 season Stoops has a 44-44 record at Kentucky. The last UK coach to finish his career with a record over .500 was Blanton Collier, Bear Bryant’s successor that went 41-36-3 from 1954-61.

If you need further proof that Stoops is unequivocally the most successful UK head coach in the modern era, friend of KSR, Tim Uhl, created this line graph that illustrates highs and lows from each coach. Most were forced to make a masterpiece out of mud and almost every coach experienced some success. Stoops has taken the program to new heights.

It’s a good time to be a Kentucky football fan.

Brooks was dealing with a probation and a much tougher east. Brooks also beat the national championship LSU team. Stoops has had money thrown at the football team something Brooks never received thus making recruiting even harder in his day. Right now I put Stoops and Brooks in the same fold but the second Stoops wins the East he takes it.

Brooks did a great job, but what stoops has done the last 2 years imo puts him on top

Coach Stoops is a big reason all that money came. He required the same commitment from admin and boosters that he does from players. Coach Stoops is a force
