Heisman-Caliber Running Back Chuba Hubbard Blasts Head Coach Mike Gundy

Outspoken Oklahoma State head football coach Mike Gundy has been pushing the limit for years. Today he might have gone too far.

The mullet man that’s led the Cowboys’ program since 2005 has made headlines over the last three months, even though the coronavirus has virtually suspended all football activities across the country. Today for the first time a player has publicly criticized the head coach, and not just any player.

Last season Chuba Hubbard led the nation in rushing yards with 2,094 on the ground (161.4 per game). He scored 21 touchdowns to earn First Team All-American honors. Entering the 2020 season he has the best odds of a non-quarterback to win the Heisman Trophy at 22-1, that is, if he still wants to play for Gundy.

Hubbard shared the following message on Twitter Monday afternoon.

The OAN news network could be described as a conservative news outlet, but that doesn’t quite articulate just how far right OAN leans. OAN makes Fox News look liberal. If you’d like a quick recap, John Oliver does a good job highlighting its most ridiculous moments.

Even though it angered his star player, it’s perfectly on brand for Gundy. After all, only two months ago Gundy had to issue an apology for his comments that made light of the seriousness of the coronavirus pandemic. In that rambling press conference he praised OAN, saying it was refreshing to watch news without commentary.

Mike Gundy will not face severe consequences for wearing a t-shirt of his favorite TV station. The image of him in the t-shirt inspired his players to say “enough is enough.” There’s certainly more to the story when the current defensive team captain echos Hubbard’s statement by saying, “I stand with him.” Two former players also took to social media to share their thoughts on Gundy.

Who knows exactly what will happen next to the man who once screamed, “I’m a man, I’m 40” in a press conference. Gundy been in hot water before and survived. What is certain is that he is doing everything he can to torpedo a potential historic season in Stillwater before it begins.

What is wrong with our world where people take offense to someone wearing a tee shirt of one of the new networks doing news? From what I have seen, they are doing a good job for such a new network. Would the player have been ok if it was a CNN tee? I just don’t understand. The country is divided pretty evenly between libs and conservatives. It is pretty obvious where the writer of this story falls.

      Key word here is “divided”.

    • Jpcat15

Has always been divided due to the 2 party system, but the divide got bigger with W and then got really divided with Obama. Trump now in the same spot. Seems like most Americans are rooting against their country if “their” guy isn’t in the office.

And the two party system is in place to give the illusion that we have a say in who is elected and how the country is run, what is does is keep us divided and fighting among ourselves….as planned. The last thing they want is for the majority to stand united, they want us divided…makes us easier to control.

This is just beyond ridiculous. Any person has the right to wear a shirt supporting his or her favorite network. If his players don’t like the network that’s their right but it is also Gundy’s to show his support. This shit is getting out of hand. Let the players transfer if they so choose.

What you said is exactly what’s happening. He has a right to wear the shirt and his players have the right to respond however they’d like. The system works.

Meanwhile there are sports media outlets speculating as to whether this will affect Gundy’s job…some players complaining about a t shirt with a news network’s logo. He could lose his job over a t shirt that he wore ON A FISHING TRIP that had no political, let alone racist or offensive, content. Think about that. The “system,” as you call it most definitely does not work.

    • everythingsblue3
      7:48 pm June 15, 2020 Permalink

And you watch…they will all transfer to more “inclusive” and a more “racially sensitive” (liberal) universities that will pander to, and allow this type of mutiny within an athletic program all in the name of “whatereverimacussedofbeingtonight”

When that happens, what goes with it?

The worst result is the further degradation of our society as a whole…

The second worst, IMHO, is a division between our fan base. Those who will bow to this, and concede, and those like me, who will not.

Of course black lives matter…ALL LIVES MATTER!

Never in the history of the world did we care about kneeling, but the president made it a big deal, so then fox news made it a big deal. I promise if it was a white dude kneeling for pro-life, the president would have loved it and cnn would have hated it. We’re all just getting mad over stupid stuff. Like BLM. I agree. The problem is, both sides gets a watered down version of the truth. Kapernick has been played off as a “flag hater, disrespect our country…etc” by right wing media. Therefore all the rights hates him. Because that’s all they hear. Trump has done great things for our economy. Yes he needs to keep his mouth shut and stay off Twitter. My thing is, if a liberal person wore a CNN shirt, (which is extremely liberal democratic) then nothing’s said. If someone was mad then Democrats would call them bigots. Our country is divided. I’ll agree with that. Yes, we need to rid our country of bad cops, racism and other problems. I’m all for standing to change that. But, the left side is calling for “equality”. Well if they TOO are hypocritical. My reason for saying that is, they are basically saying, “everyone has a right in our country to their own opinions and beliefs…..AS LONG AS it’s not against mine and don’t offend me”. I’ll admit I’m a conservative republican but I don’t like lots of things about Trump and was many things I didn’t like about Obama. To the people who gets mad at people for being pro-trump or pro-life etc, you are calling for equality. That runs both ways. Problem is, both liberal AND conservative media outlets fuels feuds. It sales. Until the media on both ends start just giving the facts and leave it up to us citizens to decide what we believe, then we will remain divided.

Everyone can argue back and forth; the Dems. vs the Repub, the left vs. the right, etc. and both can make their points but does anybody really know the truth on every story? Person A will point to a news story they read or watched somewhere but person B will say they read a news story that said the exact opposite and then both sides will say the other is trying to take control of the country. Again, does anyone really, really know 100% for sure 100% of the time? The honest answer is no, therefore I try to stay out of debates as much as possible but when I do comment I’ll try to do so in a civil manner.

The irony here is that Mike Gundy actually ended up being the most accurate predictor of the coronavirus. He really didn’t say anything crazy, it just seemed controversial because it was at the height of media panic in March. Here’s what he said:
He said 20 year old athletes are not really affected. Result: Correct.
He said we’d could have a football season on time and even without fans. Result: Correct.
He said he planned on getting back to work on May 1. Result: pretty dang close. Here in Florida we got back to work on May 18 so he was a lot closer than most were predicting at that time.
