Thanks to big plays from Terry Wilson, Keaton Upshaw and Josh Paschal, the Kentucky Wildcats head into halftime with a 14-0 lead over the Mississippi State Bulldogs.
After a back-and-forth effort to begin the game featuring five consecutive punts, UK got on the board first with a 12-yard touchdown strike from Wilson to Upshaw to go up 7-0. UK pass-rusher Josh Paschal followed it up with a 76-yard interception returned to the Mississippi State 2, with running back Chris Rodriguez punching in the score on the next play to put the Cats up 14-0.
With the Bulldogs driving right before half, UK linebacker Jamin Davis – sporting Chris Oats’ No. 22 jersey, no less – picked off K.J. Costello in the end zone to complete the first-half shutout.
Wilson finished the half with 31 passing yards and a touchdown to go with 74 rushing yards.
AJ Rose also added 11 rushing yards, while Rodriguez finished with eight yards and one touchdown on three carries.
On defense, DeAndre Square finished the half with 4.5 tackles, followed by Brandin Echols with 4.0, and Davis and Wright with 3.5 each, respectively.
