The game you’ve been waiting for all year is finally here.

Florida. Kentucky. Under the lights at Kroger Field.

A year after dominating the Gators on the ground in The Swamp, Kentucky will seek its first victory over Florida in Lexington since 1986. The eighth-ranked Gators enter Lexington on a six-game winning streak after closing out 2018 with a win over Michigan and opening 2019 with a week zero victory over Miami.

Boasting one of the bests pass rushes in the nation, Florida’s Jabari Zuniga and Jonathan Greenard will test Kentucky’s talented offensive line. This week they’ll be protecting a new quarterback, Sawyer Smith. Thrust into action following Terry Wilson’s season-ending injury against EMU, the grad transfer from Troy has been a similar situation before, just not on a stage this big. The last game he started, Smith was named MVP of the Dollar General Bowl after throwing for 320 yards and four touchdowns. If his performance tonight comes close to replicating his final game at Troy, the Cats are in great hands.

Without a doubt the craziest atmosphere of the year at The Kroger, tonight has the potential to be special. If Kentucky takes care of the football and is effective on the ground, it will be a party tonight in Lexington.

Hall of Fame Weekend

Andre’ Woodson will serve as an Honorary Team Captain the day after he was inducted in the UK Athletics Hall of Fame. Many of Woodson’s teammates are in town this weekend for the occasion, like Keenan Burton and the man who got loose, Stevie Johnson. Woodson entered the distinguished community alongside Henri Junghanel (rifle), A’dia Mathies (women’s basketball), Vic Nelson (cross country/track and field), DeMarcus Cousins (men’s basketball) and Don Weber (cross country/track and field). All but Cousins will be honored at halftime.

So our stats look very similar to the 8th best team in the nation while having played more difficult opponents, but we are unranked and are picked to lose this game at home? What am I missing?

Well, Miami is a good ish team, but they still aren’t ranked and have lost both of their games this year. I know UTM is not on the level of either of the two teams we played. Based on the stats, it looks like Florida’s defense is better than UK has shown so far this year. I still think UK should have more respect.

Nick, do us a favor and give us a Trinity score every once in a while. They’re only the best high school program in the state.
