Kentucky snapped a 22-game losing streak in their big win over South Carolina Saturday night. A lot of young players made some big time plays for the Wildcats. True freshman defensive back Chris Westry made a number of those big plays including his first career interception that secured UK’s 26-22 victory over the Gamecocks. Westry’s standout performance led the true freshman to be named the SEC Defensive Player of the Week by CollegeSportsMadness.com.
“He’s an unbelievable talent. He can cover, he can tackle, he’s big,” defensive coordinator D.J. Eliot said. “One reason he got that interception is because he’s 6-4. They tried to throw it over him in the zone, and because of his length and his athletic ability he was able to jump up and pick it off.”
