The Governor’s Cup may get played after all, even if the ACC and SEC go to conference-only football schedules this fall.
Brett McMurphy is reporting that four SEC East programs “desperately” want to play their ACC state rivals. One of course is Kentucky as the Cats would love the opportunity to kick the Cards’ teeth in again; the others are Florida/Florida State, South Carolina/Clemson and Georgia/Georgia Tech.
The issue with that plan is finding an opponent for the 10 other SEC teams that would need another game:
4 SEC East Division teams (UF, UGA, UK, USC) “desperately” want to play their ACC state rivals along w/8 SEC league games in event of 9-game season this year. However, SEC has to figure out obstacle how to get other 10 SEC teams a Power 5 nonconference game, @MattHayesCFB reports

It’s good to know they’re not going to throw it away.
