Waterworks are Inevitable
After talking with most of the seniors from the defense, one thing is certain: tears will be shed on Senior Day. Blake McClain was the first to call out J.D. Harmon and Marcus McWilson. “They’re just kind of emotional,” he said.
Harmon did not refute McClain’s claims. “I think just because my mom’s gonna cry, I may cry. She’s very emotional and I’m a momma’s boy.”
I can’t be mad. It’s their party, they can cry if they want to.
Three Young Guys Getting Reps
With plenty of players banged up, D.J. Eliot said younger guys have been getting more meaningful reps. Once the score gets out of hand on Saturday, they’ll see the most significant snaps of their young careers.
- Jordan Griffin, freshman cornerback
- T.J. Carter, freshman defensive tackle
- Jordan Bonner, sophomore JUCO outside linebacker
A few names I would add to the list: Eli Brown, Kash Daniel, Marcus Walker and Calvin Taylor.
Darius West’s Return
The Kentucky defense struggled to handle the loss of safety Darius West at the start of the season. Praised in the preseason as one of their best leaders, it took some time for the defense to figure out how to function without him.
Hopefully that will not be the case once Spring Practice starts. D.J. Eliot believes he’ll be back, ready to go. “He’s had a good rehab. He’s stayed positive. He’s worked hard. Darius has worked very hard and I look to get him back as soon as we can.”
Will there be a Security Breach at UK?
D.J. Eliot was asked if he had to change any of his passwords following the news that UofL may have had an early peek at Wake Forest’s playbook. At first, Eliot was worried, confused that something had happened to Kentucky. After a few laughs, he finessed the question well.
“I leave the IT guys up to that,” earned a few more laughs. “I’m sure we have a very secure line. I’m confident in them.”
