Mark Stoops has done great on the recruiting trail since he became the head coach at Kentucky, better than anyone has ever recruited at UK. He’s received praise, and a raise, but nothing quite like the praise former UK assistants are receiving.
With less than two weeks until National Signing Day, ESPN Recruiting Insider Jeremy Crabtree ranked the top recruiters in the nation. Two former UK assistants were in the Top Three.
#1 USC’s Tee Martin
In 2010-11, Martin was Kentucky’s best recruiters, infamously telling Matt Jones that he didn’t want to tell the best recruits to come to campus because the facilities were so poor. Since he left for USC, he’s been promoted from wide receivers coach to offensive coordinator. He’s claimed the number one spot after landing seven recruits in the ESPN 300.
#3 LSU’s Bradley Dale Peveto
Peveto was the Special Teams coordinator in Stoops’ first season at Kentucky. He was a fan favorite after stating, “If Stoops says it’s Easter, dye your eggs.” A longtime assistant at LSU, Peveto couldn’t turn down the opportunity to return home after only one season at UK.
At LSU, he’s brought in four ESPN 300 players in the Class of 2016. One of those recruits said: “Coach Peveto is a trip and really fun to be around. He never stops working. He’s a really good dude, and I really respect him a lot. He’s a big reason why I’m going to LSU.”
Too bad none of these guys could make this list while they were at Kentucky.
