Former Louisville player confirms strippers in the dorm

Eric Crawford over at WDRB has more troublesome news for the Louisville basketball program.

You can go ahead and add an unnamed former Cardinal to the growing list of people spilling the beans, along with former recruit Jaquan Lyle. The former player told investigators there were strippers in Billy Minardi Hall on at least one occasion, according to a source. The player did not see any sex take place, but he did see money thrown at the dancers.

While this is only one player talking about a single event in an investigation expected to delve into four years of allegations, it does demonstrate a player acknowledging some of the claims in Powell’s book while taking issue with others. His voice, presumably, would be just one of many in the final report.

This particular player told a university investigator that no sex took place (that he knew of), and that the only money he saw changing hands came in the form of dollar bills thrown at the women in the room, according to the source, who spoke on the condition that the identities of player and source be anonymous. The door is wide open for more people to come forward.

And they will.

Fun reading. Unfortunately their comments section is a little more advanced than KSR’s so I haven’t been able to chime in, but it sure is fun to watch.

Someone paid McGee a lot of $$ to do this to UL.Thatโ€™s the only thing that makes sense. And all we have left.”

U of L is about to burn. I’m just going to sit back and toast some marshmallows in the flames.

That cracked me up as well. That and the comment where someone said Matt was the “source with knowledge of the investigation.”

Another comment that genuinely made me laugh out loud: “Even if all this stuff did happen, if it happened without Pitino’s involvement or knowledge, I can’t see him quitting and letting this be his final legacy. I’d think he would want to stick around and get us through this. It’s what a Louisville Man would do.” LOUISVILLE MAN

Still think nothing will come of these allegations. The NCAA has no backbone and someone within the U of L community will pay off who needs to be paid off (maybe use the same whores). In a couple of months this will be all forgotten – just ask the University of Miami, Ohio State University, University of North Carolina.

Miami – some players were suspended, loss of scholarships, they had a post-season ban (self-imposed), and Shapiro went to jail. Multiple coaches had 2 year show-clauses
OSU – Tressel was fired, post-season ban, loss of scholarships
UNC – still up in the air

In two cases, though, people lost their jobs and post-season bans were implemented. Most importantly, however, is the fact that the players were given cash (and tattoos in OSU’s case), while at UofL they were given paid-for underage prostitutes. I don’t think this will get swept under the rug that easily.

Slap on the wrist – no punishment really.

    • No punished for a university hooker recruiting program?
      6:20 pm October 8, 2015 Permalink

Pitino said you can’t get recruits by this. Really? His best run at UL and their best run in 30 years are those exact couple years that this went on. And at least three players on their two banner seasons were ineligible by definition by this scandal. Marcus Camby took benefits from an AGENT as a Senior. These guys got these recruits by basketball staff bought hookers. These banners MUST come down.

Not sure this evidence is particularly damning. Doesn’t say “strippers provided by basketball staff,” just “strippers.” And it doesn’t say _which_ strippers, like “Katina Powell, Rod-ni, TooTall, etc.”

It’s not nothing, but it’s not much either.

When you start piling up so much circumstantial evidencee idence, it eventually become damning. There isn’t yet a “hammer” but there’s enough here to get a lot of people in trouble and ruin uofl bball for several years

This story just keeps getting more bizarre:
An independent Louisville organization has hired a law firm to review an escort’s allegations that former men’s basketball staffer Andre McGee hired dancers to strip and have sex with recruits and players.

The University of Louisville Foundation announced the hiring Thursday of the Stites & Harbison law firm. The foundation does fundraising for the university.

Yes, this is the same Foundation that is currently under investigation by the State Auditor over multimillion-dollar payments to U of L President James Ramsey.

Look, I get as much enjoyment out of watching UofL go down in flames as anyone…But I didn’t want it to be like this. If half of what is in that book is true, then it is a TERRIBLE reflection of all parties involved. This isn’t as simple as Pitino screwing up, or cheating or whatever. This is just a dumpster fire of terrible human beings all coming together in a sick, twisted scheme that revolves around BASKETBALL. I’m not naive enough to think things like this (on a much smaller scale) don’t go on with programs all over the country (they do), but to think it could go this far is a bit sickening.

I’m not going to sit around and do back handsprings and jump for joy over this. Because I can’t help but wonder what Pitino was doing while at Kentucky in the early 90s. The man that Pitino has turned out to be makes me embarrassed that he was ever the head coach here, despite his success. He sure as hell didn’t wake up one day a terrible person. He’s been that way for a long, long time.

I’m with you Blue. I am not a fan of Ricks but this will be what he is remembered for. Grudgingly he is a great coach and he did help bring our program back when we were in a rough patch. He will never be able to get top level recruits again.

Last place to get hit for prostitutes similar to this was the Colorado football program. They still havnt recovered that was like 15 years ago. Underage sex, crimes against children, fathers of recruits participating, ya not gonna be a slap on the wrist gonna get hammered

This is not news. College males and strippers go hand in hand. So it happened in a basketball dorm? So what? It’s not the first time and certainly won’t be the last.
