Former Kentucky wide receiver Akeem Hayes has a new home. Three months after entering the transfer portal, the redshirt sophomore from Hollywood, Fl. announced on Twitter he’s committing to Arkansas State. The Red Wolves are coached by former Tennessee head coach Butch Jones.

In two seasons on the field at Kentucky, Hayes recorded just four catches for 54 yards and a touchdown in seven total games. He posted a career-high 30 yards receiving and a career-long 28-yard catch vs. Ole Miss, along with a two-catch, 24-yard, one-touchdown performance against Auburn in 2020. Hayes originally signed with Kentucky over offers from Louisville, Baylor, Illinois and FAU back in 2017. The 5-foot-8, 155-pound receiver was considered the No. 980 overall recruit and No. 82 athlete in the 2018 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Although he voiced his frustrations over lack of playing time more than once on social media, Hayes thanked the UK coaching staff and his teammates when he announced he was entering the portal in February.

Best of luck to Hayes in Jonesboro. At least he’ll be a champion of life.
