After the fourth-ranked Gators were upset by Texas A&M in front of a relatively large Kyle Field crowd, the Florida head coach used his postgame press conference to ask the school’s administration to open up Ben Hill Griffin Stadium to a maximum capacity crowd for this week’s game against LSU. Early Tuesday Florida announced that five football players tested positive for COVID-19. A few hours later athletics director Scott Stricklin announced that all Florida football activities have been suspended due to an uptick in cases. The suspension in play for the nation’s tenth-ranked team will be re-evaluated on Wednesday.
As of now, the LSU-Florida game is still a go for Saturday afternoon at 4 pm ET. If postponed it would be the second SEC game sidelined by COVID-19 this fall. An outbreak at Vanderbilt forced the league to move Saturday’s game against Missouri to Dec. 12.
