I wrote an awful lot over the weekend. No matter how many words I put on the site over the 18 hours I spent at the football facility on Friday and Saturday, I still missed some stuff. I’ll get into the football team’s soundtrack, the progression of the DBs, and the curious case of Jason Hatcher in due time, but until then, enjoy this.
Auburn on a Thursday Night is in the Back of Everybody’s Mind
There’s a question that you rarely get a good answer for, but you always have to ask, “What game are you looking forward to most this year?”
When Louisville started the season, it was a unanimous no-brainer for a variety of reasons. You also have cases where guys can’t wait to go home to play in front of their family. It worked out VERY well for Juice Johnson last year. There’s also the boring, “I’m excited for every game” answer.
This year was different. While they all remained hesitant to give an honest answer, when push came to shove the answer was almost always, “Auburn.” They know how big the stage will be for the Thursday Night Showdown, and they aren’t shying away from it at all.
I have a hunch they’ll be wearing these new helmets for the game, currently on display next to the 1951 National Championship Trophy.
They Spend About Every Minute Together
When I hear the term “camp,” I have never really understood what all that entailed. I’m sure it involved multiple practices, workouts and position meetings, but I didn’t realize how consuming it was. The players get about two hours in the middle of the day for free time. Outside of that, good luck finding an extra 10-15 minutes to get away. The bonding can be great for the young guys, but tiresome for the vets. Unfortunately for them, Mark Stoops and Vince Marrow stole two of the best napping couches for their own office use. No wonder they’re looking forward to the new practice facility.
Jacob Hyde wants me to Put the Camera Down
Especially when their autograph table is empty. Speaking of Jacob Hyde, we were lucky enough to witness Matt Elam’s best impression on Media Day. I’d like to do a blind test to see if we can tell the difference between the two.
Tastes are Changing in Celeb Crushes
A question I must ask every year got asked a lot less this year, “If you had one night to go out with any girl in the world, who would it be?” Beyonce held her own for years, but Jay-Z’s better half wasn’t mentioned once on Media Day. Instead, there were some surprises. Skylar Diggins, Kylie Jenner and Rihanna were the most frequent responses. I’m surprised this year was the first time I heard Rihanna’s name.
That’s how the Cats are breaking their huddle before practice. Think what you will, but remember, “If you shoot for the moon and miss, you will still be among the stars.”
