FINAL: Kentucky falls to Alabama 63-3

Even before news broke that ten Wildcats were officially out of today’s game vs. No. 1 Alabama, Kentucky faced a monumental task in Tuscaloosa. For at least the first quarter, the Cats hung tough, staying within punching distance of the Crimson Tide. Unfortunately, the mistakes piled up all too quickly.

A holding penalty on Kentucky’s second possession turned what could have been a touchdown into a field goal. A fumbled field goal attempt prevented the Cats from getting on the board on the next drive. From there, Bama put its giant thumb down and shut the Cats out, romping to a final score of 63-3. Without stars like Chris Rodriguez, Jamin Davis, and Max Duffy and crucial role players like Luke Fortner and Brenden Bates, the chances for an upset were slim, but the myriad of mistakes made it even worse. According to Corey Price, it was Kentucky’s third worst SEC loss in program history (60 points) (66 points, Florida, 1994; 65 points, Florida, 1996). Ouch.

All three Kentucky quarterbacks played, but Terry Wilson was the only one to complete a pass, finishing 10-19 for 120 yards and one interception before exiting the game in the third quarter. On the other side of the ball, former UK commit Mac Jones was 16-24 for 230 yards, two touchdowns and one interception, a beautiful pick by Bossman Fat that momentarily made the blowout slightly less terrible.

With Rodriguez out, AJ Rose led Kentucky’s ground attack, rushing ten times for 68 yards. Kavosiey Smoke had nine carries for 26 yards. Peek all the stats below in the box score. We’ll have more coverage throughout the night, including comments from Mark Stoops.

It is time for Stoops to go. It may be an unpopular decision to many, but his tenure has run its course. Ol Fatboy is simply cashing checks at this point since he’s made about $800,000 for that performance. Time to get someone who actually knows how to run an offense…maybe even call their own plays. Stoops recruiting success is overblown and we’ve always known it wasnt him drawing them in. He sucks plain and simple. UK will go back to doormat status if he stays another 1-2 years. Pull the trigger Mitch. Even Louisville has passed us by.

      Big cat Jack…Wrong!

Coach Stoop-Id and his traveling “side show of coaches” should have been let go after a dismal offensive performance against Georgia two years ago!

That single game alone was a RED FLAG this coaching staff had reached its peak!

Tonight? Our UK Football Program returned to the days of Bill Curry! Yep we have sunk that far down in two years: the smoke and mirrors can only take you so far. Just ask Hal Mumme!

But don’t fret… Our bigger hurdle is our inept AD Barnyard… who will never be the AD Kentucky needs because he is SO Lacking in judgement and aggressiveness… he will never go out and GET the right man to take us to the next level: remember promising Joker Phillips the position before Rich Brooks stepped down?

We are a Univesity without a “Sound AD” who can advance our major sports programs.

      GONE BIG BLUE!

Although Saban should’ve had a little more sportsmanship on that last drive and told them not to score again. I effing hate Saban for that, he has zero class doing that

You don’t want Alabama to score again with their 3rd string? THEN FREAKING STOP THEM!

    • goteam94
      7:18 pm November 21, 2020 Permalink

Yeah because it was Saban who was running the ball wide open into the end zone. Smh. There’s only so much you can do when you’re team is that much better. You still gotta play the game.

    • UKBigBlueForever
      7:23 pm November 21, 2020 Permalink

You clearly don’t understand what sportsmanship is. When you’re up 56-3 and all you need is a first down you don’t run it in for a touchdown, you get the first down and go down. Look up what Nick Chubb did last week in the NFL. He went out at the 1 yard line instead of scoring to out them up by two possessions.

    • bigblue98
      8:14 pm November 21, 2020 Permalink

Chubb did not go out for sportsmanship. They were up 10-7. They score and go up 17-7, but they give the ball up. Very remote that Texans could score twice, but still possibility. By going down at one Texans had no timeouts, so Browns could kneel down.

    • Hi Im Reality
      7:24 pm November 21, 2020 Permalink

Nick Chubb went out to ensure a win, not for sportsmanship. Jeez.

No, he didn’t.. Jeez.. They would’ve been up by 9 points which is two possessions (before the extra point). He didn’t need to do that at all

    • 4everUKBlue
      7:28 pm November 21, 2020 Permalink

From what I saw he didn’t call one pass play the entire fourth quarter, to expect them to not score on the last drive when he’s clearly put the brakes on is asinine. They could’ve beaten us 3 more TD’s if Saban wanted to.

    • original slappy
      7:57 pm November 21, 2020 Permalink

You’re an idiot if you think Chubb ran out for sportsmanship. He did it so they could kneel down and win the game instead of giving the ball back to Houston

You guys calling Saban un-sportsman like are just plain pathetic. Of course winning is the most important thing to him. How the hell do you think the won 6 national titles? You’d love him if he were our coach..

It really is time to accept the fact that TW is not a good quarterback. He is not even as good as he was before his injury. I can understand that, but the coaching staff should understand that as well. If he is the best option that we have, then the staff has done a terrible job of recruiting. TW should not play a snap the rest of the season. Gatewood and Allen need to play to see what we have. We’re going to lose them all anyway, so let’s find out if either can actually play at this level.

Unfortunately, I think this game shows that the program can’t compete with the upper echelon in the SEC. I had hopes that maybe UK could be similar to South Carolina during the Spurrier years where they could have average years, good years and then have a year or three where they overachieve everyone’s expectations. It’s a bit demoralizing thinking that the best of times is middle of the road in the SEC instead. Demoralizing loss for sure!

    • Hi Im Reality
      7:42 pm November 21, 2020 Permalink

You can’t recruit at the bottom of the SEC and expect to compete at the top. 2018 was the pinnacle of UK football. That was the overachieving year.

    • WhitakerBankShot22
      7:45 pm November 21, 2020 Permalink

The only way you can compete when your recruiting isn’t as strong is to have a creative offense and an explosive passing game….we try to shorten the game and pound the ball, as soon as UK falls behind by any amount the game is over, that’s all scheme and coaching.

    • VirginiaCat
      8:00 pm November 21, 2020 Permalink

You hit the nail on the head. We simply don’t have the quality of coaches and players to compete with the upper echelon. Had Alabama left their starters in the game, it could have been worse than a 60-point pounding. Nothing much will change unless the university decides to place a true emphasis on building a premier football program. I don’t see that happening. We are not and never will be a football school.

Let’s face it…Stoops is a terrible coach. He got lucky for a few years by having some key talent in the program, but it is unsustainable when you can’t actually coach. Plus the SEC has been down within the middle tier. He has ZERO concept on how to run an offense and his defensive philosophy is predicated on keeping the score low and controlling the ball. Bend but dont break zone get broken in half when your defense can’t rest due to offensive ineffectiveness. We appreciate how he took the program forward, but dump his fat ass and bring in someone who can actually take the next step and not keep playing ball like we are still living in the 1980s.

They have a better roster than Kentucky no doubt. Penix is a baller and their receivers and running backs are very talented. Tom Allen has been able to take 3 and 4 star guys from Indiana and develop them. The key here is that Indiana is willing to adapt offensively as a program. Kentucky, and namely Mark Stoops, are not willing to do so. It will eventually cost the man his job.

This is a very strange year for College Football this year, for the winners and the losers. NOTHING is as good as it seems AND nothing is as bad as it seems.
I do think we do need to bench Terry for the last two games and “continue” to build for the future.
We are much, much better than before Stoops and we will continue to get better under Stoops.
We are in the toughest conference in the country and it takes a while to build a consistent, winning team from where we were a short 8 years ago.
    BBN……Take a long, deep breathe…

Please don’t blame COVID for the sad state of UK football. Every team in CFB nation is dealing with the rona issue. We apparently had a solid offensive line coming into the season with a good enough of defense to handle the SEC schedule.
This comes down to coaching plain and simple. Stoops keeps giving nonchalant answers every week in press conferences. It’s sad to see Terry Wilson and Joey Gatewood laughing and cutting up on the sideline when Beau Allen didn’t succeed. This was shown on national television for everyone to see. Fire Eddie Gran, hire an actual special teams coordinator, and if I will were Mitch…..Stoops would be put on the clock. This team showed no heart in this evenings game. Y’all sit here and bitch and wine at each other over UK football. Look at the stats of the offense over the past 3 years and tell me how they have improved!
