Destin and Keaten Wade to participate at Kentucky recruiting camp

The recruiting dead period is over and June recruiting for college football means camps, in-person evaluations, official visits, and a chance to build relationships with rising sophomores and juniors. However, not often do committed prospects heading into their senior year participate in camp workouts.

The Wade twins are not typical recruits.

Per Justin Rowland of Cats Illustrated, the pair of four-stars out of Metro Nashville will be on campus on Wednesday, June 16 to visit and participate in camp drills. This is not often a normal thing, but there may just be a specific reason for this.

Destin Wade is listed as an athlete by the major recruiting services, and the 6-foot-3, 205-pound prospect could play either quarterback or safety at the next level. Kentucky is going to give Wade a chance to play quarterback after throwing for 1,390 yards and rushing for 1,509 yards as a dual-threat for Spring Hill (Tenn.) Summit last season. Development is needed, but Wade has some real tools as a quarterback. New offensive coordinator Liam Coen will get to evaluate the prospect in person as he’ll watch the 2022 prospect throw.

Keaten Wade is also a blue-chip recruit, but the rising senior will play on the edge for Kentucky. The top-200 prospect has legit size right now — 6-foot-4, 223 pounds — and could be an early factor when he enrolls in school next year. However, the outside ‘backer missed time due to injury last season and this camp will give him the chance to prove what he can do at 100 percent. Defensive coordinator Brad White will certainly be paying close attention.

Plucking these two brothers out of Tennessee was a very big deal, and it stung for the people over in Knoxville. The tape shows two high-level prospects, but little things like participating in camp prove this could be a special duo. The Wade twins certainly seem to love the game of football, and these are the type of players folks are willing to bet on in the evaluation process.

Next’s week football camp in Lexington just got a bit more exciting as a couple of 2022 blue-chippers will be showing off their stuff. KSR will be there to provide updates as Kentucky continues to try and build its recruiting class over the summer.
