Defensive end Alvonte Bell dismissed from the team

Kentucky will be without Alvonte Bell, a projected starter on the defensive line, this coming season. The senior defensive end was dismissed from the team for a violation of team rules, Mark Stoops announced Tuesday afternoon.

Bell originally signed with Kentucky in 2013 when Joker Phillips was the head coach, before going to junior college for a couple of years. He finally arrived in Lexington in 2015, sat out that year as a redshirt junior, then played in 12 games last season with four starts. He finished 2016 with 27 tackles and one tackle for loss.

His dismissal is a huge blow to defensive end depth.

Seems like we lose a projected starter on the DL before every season.

You are right and it is a shame.

Isn’t he rehabbing? Not a projected starter?

Wow, a Senior starter in the SEC throws away his chance for a big year in his career. No idea what it was he did, but there are always a few usual suspects. I wish they would teach a class to every UK student about “Bad decisions, and how to avoid them.”

There are always jobs in one’s hometown for those who throw away their chances for something better. Sad.

That’s the difference between UK and the SEC powers. At those schools, it would take a murder to get dismissed from the team if the kid is any good. Not saying we should be like them necessarily, but good ethics makes for an uphill slog.

After a thin margin last year (only beating 1 team with a winning record) we are all pretty sure he murdered someone.

On the turbid side… he flips a mean burger.

If underpriced hookers weren’t involved we will give giant thumbs down.

It’s what we’ve come to expect from Ky football…

Bummer! Sad for the kid (this senior year with friends and teammates should have been one of his best life memories) and sad for the team (losing a starter at our weakest and thinnest spot).

Bell did not start for most of the season if my memory is correct. Note I did not research this. I remember him playing only during the last few games. He was not a game changer, but was serviceable as a backup. He had 2 o3 tackles in one game. It seems like the Blue White game had several rising stars at defensive end that were not Bell. I don’t remember him playing in the BW game. Making a bonehead decision can be very expensive. The NFL always gives SEC graduates a good look.

Bell had ACL surgery in January. He wasn’t look at as a starter. Best case scenario would have been taking game snaps in October and providing depth.
