DeAndre Square named to Pro Football Focus Team of the Week

How impressive was DeAndre Square’s performance vs. Toledo? The sophomore was one of two linebackers named to Pro Football Focus’ Eckrich Team of the Week, which honors the top performers nationally in Week One.

“Flying around like a missile for the Wildcats, Square recorded multiple QB pressures, eight defensive stops and didn’t allow the single target thrown his way to be caught on 29 snaps in coverage,” PFF’s Cam Mellor wrote.

Square had a game-high 11 tackles, 1.5 for loss, a half sack, and an interception that helped Kentucky seal the win in the fourth quarter:

Could Square win SEC Defensive Player of the Week? We’ll find out in just a bit. Until then, watch his teammates rave about him after the game.

Square and Oates are both NFL caliber players. Arguably two of the better linebackers we’ve had in decades

Didn’t like that targeting call on Oates; he launched, and only then did the Toledo QB start his slide.
Reminds me of Evander Holyfield in the Olympics; as he threw a left hook, the referee yelled stop…no way he could pull that punch.

Fully agree, said the same thing to my brother when it happened. But if he’s going to miss a game better Eastern Michigan than Florida.

Max Duffy should be in this list for punters. He’s become a weapon at that position.
