Dan Mullen believes the streak will end, but hopefully not on his watch

It’s UK-Florida week, which means each coach on both sides of the field will have to answer the age-old question: What about the streak?

Mark Stoops is used to the question by now. Down in Gainesville, new Gators head coach Dan Mullen addressed it for the first time.

Mullen said, “I don’t know what that has to do with the game this week. Our guys didn’t have a whole lot to do with that and neither did they guys on their team, nobody. I don’t think that has any effect on this week’s game. It’s going to be two good teams going out to go play each other.”

Mullen did admit he doesn’t want to be the one to end three consecutive decades of beating Kentucky, though. He said, “I imagine someday the streak will be broken. It’s just the nature of sports, right? I don’t want to be the one that does it.”

“I try not to think about it in those terms because it really has no effect on us winning or losing this year,” he added.

I would say he probably doesn’t have anything to worry about Saturday based on how we looked most of the CMU game, but I’m 32 so I really don’t know what a UK team that beats UF is supposed to look like.

It is not what a UK team looks like to beat Florida, it is what a loser team Florida had to get beat by Kentucky.
    They were awful.
This Florida team is not awful.
Hope for the best. Go Cats.

When had horrible QB play and still beat a solid Central Michigan by 15. If we are improved at QB I like our chances with anyone on the schedule. All these posts are from people that watch a tunnel view version of football. Most of you don’t have enough understanding of the sport to really see what’s going on. The defense looked as good as it has in forever. We have as good a running game as there is anywhere. We have a ton of weapons on the field for a QB to throw to. Simplify some reads on offense and we will be better than fine.

If we beat UF, then I’ll accept football is rocket science and never pretend to understand again. I hope I’m wrong, but what I saw last Saturday was a UK team that was inconsistent versus a bottom tier FBS team at home. Loved the defense in the 2nd half, but we’re going to need a lot more than that.

Still think we can put together a great season by UK standards, but I’ll be surprised if UF beats us by less than two possessions.
