Cats too much for the Skyhawks, win 59-14

@clayphoto

@clayphoto

@clayphoto

The Cats rolled over the Skyhawks today at Commonwealth, coming up with a 59-14 win over their obviously weaker FCS-opponent.

Stoops made a point in his Thursday press conference about coming out hot today, and the Cats did just that. They broke out to a 35-0 halftime lead and never looked back. Pat Towles had an impressive 20-29, 370 yard, and 2 TD performance (one on the ground), as well as Braylon Heard going for 116 yards and 2 TD’S on just two carries.

Stick around for some more Cats postgame fun coming soon!

    good win today but when they play flordia it will be a different story.

      Even if Florida wins it isn’t like they’re seeing bowl action this year.

      i enjoyed the game no doubt BUT we did play a cream puff team and next week we will play another cream puff team playing Ohio but even when playing Florida they could still lay put it on kentucky but for the next week will be another great win and at the same time we do have to look at reality that we are not there yet but we will be.

      wildcat, we’ve been one of those “cream puff” teams the last couple of years. There’s a long way to go, no doubt, but we are on the right path now. Let’s enjoy the win. You show up on a celebration thread about a win to talk about how we may not win future games. Debbie downer.

    A feel good win over a really overmatched team. Cats should have won by 60 points but the defense needs work badly. Offense looks good but the O line could have been better. Towles is a difference maker spreading the ball around makes this a much harder team to defend.

      Hey, 2mites, you should write Mark Stoops and give him your analysis of the D’s performance today. I’m sure he could use it. It’s not like he coached the 2nd best defense in the NCAA or has had 27 players drafted into the NFL or anything.

    • 2mites
      4:18 pm August 30, 2014 Permalink

      Orkin if you think giving up 200 yds. to a UTM in rushing is good I will bet Stoops doesn’t think so. He will make UK a much better team and it already is but there is much improvement to make and Believe me Stoops knows it.

    • Orkin
      4:34 pm August 30, 2014 Permalink

      Haha, nowhere in my comment did I say giving up that much yardage was ‘good’. My point was you need to relax. Stoops forgets more than you will ever know about defense, yet you seem to think we have hit our ceiling, one game into the season. Calm down. This stuff takes time. Quit being so critical, and you may actually have some fun, and people will enjoy being around you.

Being a loyal fan and writing bout how your rah rah rah will help is just being delusional. I have been a fan for my 66 yrs. and will continue to be one but when I see disrespect for the UK jersey, tradition, and fans from 18 and 19 year old divas it is upsetting. Why you and all other blue Kool Aid drinkers do not see it is baffling.

    they didn’t even really try to score in second half and all ut Martin points came with UK backups in the game on defense. The o line struggled in 1st Q….Much better after that. they are better this year and.making progress……towles can get the ball field and is pretty accurate so there’s that

    Offense looked really good today but the defense gave up too many yards to a team like UTM. well need to average 35 pts just to be relevant this season.

    • BluKudzu

      3.9 yards average per rush, UTM had the ball 2/3 of the game. 183 yards total, most of the damage was done after the game had been decided in the second half.

    Even if you shoot a 66 from the red tees in golf, you still had to shoot a 66. Overmatched? Definately. They still took care of business, and I think it safe to say they are miles ahead of last year.
    I like the direction, and if the old adage of measure of improvement being greater between games one and two, I think they will be ok.
    4 wins is extremely possible, 5 maybe, 6 will be a gift.
    We are getting better folks, and that is what remains important.

    All I’m saying is Barker needs snaps! Bring this kid in from a recruiting battle with Spurrier and don’t even get him snaps?! Redshirt talks aside I think it’s risky business especially when Barker played a huge role in recruiting a lot of these big recruits. Toweles is only a soph and we will be in same situation next year. If we are gonna keep winning recruiting battles we are gonna have to throw these kids in the game.

      UK22 is dead-on, actually. Barker absolutely needs to get some time before the season is over. He is the heart and soul of the new UK team, and the sooner he starts, the better. Towles looked okay, but you can tell he’s hit his ceiling, and won’t ever be as capable as Barker at his best.

      What degree of morons are you guys who want Barker to play this year? Towles looks terrific and poised. Red shirt on freshmen is what makes good teams great. Look at all the red shirts on all the top teams in the county and you see success.

      Agree with UK 22. Barker had a lot to do with incoming class and I’m totally OK with getting him snaps or even start. Why not get him ready now?! Make sure we get three years from him. You don’t think A&M would have liked Johnny for three years?

    59 points, 650+ yards, in only 23:33 minutes of possession, 189 rating at QB, in the first game. So you think he has hit his ceiling?….Stoops and Brown, change everything you plan to do because this SFB nobody thinks Patty Ice is not what we need at this time.

    Uh, don’t know what game the “we need to play Barker” crowd was watching, but Towles was throwing lasers the whole game. A lot of his throws were NFL caliber. Out of 9 incomplete passes, 6 of them were either catchable or “barely misses.” Towles reminds me of Greg Jones that played for Arkansas about 5 years ago. I couldn’t believe how fast he was when he ran in that 30 yard touchdown. BTW, Barker, like 90% of other true freshman, would get killed in SEC competition. A redshirt is more than appropriate.

    • "Was throwing lasers the whole game"

      You mean like the pass into the end zone that was so under-thrown it would have been intercepted by any quality defense?

    • dort
      7:28 pm August 30, 2014 Permalink

      Really? One under-thrown pass. That’s your complaint? Towles was hitting deep outs, screen passes, and, most importantly, he was throwing deep balls. For a QB with essentially two years’ worth of rust on him, he looked pretty darn good. Why don’t you look at some film of Maxwell Smith. He couldn’t throw an out pattern of more than 10 yards w/o it getting picked off.
