Now that was just an enjoyable experience, wasn’t it?  And I think what made it most enjoyable is Kentucky completely exerted it’s will over Florida for much of that game.  This team has a clear identity as one who dominates in the trenches and with it’s star running backs.  And Terry Wilson showed the flashes on speed and arm strength that UK hasn’t had in quite a long time.  Take a look at the offensive numbers, by down and distance, from Saturday and celebrate the fact that, for once, UK made the game they wanted it:

1st Down
Run: 19 rushes, 169 yards, 1 TD
Pass: 3-7, 30 yards, 1 INT

SEASON TOTALS
Run: 41 rushes, 330 yards, 3 TD
Pass: 9-19, 105 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT (1 fumble lost)

Recap: Absolutely dominant performance by the backs and offensive line.  UK played to it’s strengths all game, putting themselves in great positions and breaking off big play after big play.  Obviously the passing numbers were not stellar but when the rushing numbers are this good, it doesn’t really matter.

2nd Down
Run: 13 rushes, 54 yards (1 fumble lost)
Pass: 4-5, 43 yards, 1 TD

SEASON TOTALS
Run: 29 rushes, 167 yards, 2 TD (2 fumbles lost)
Pass: 8-10, 62 yards, 1 TD (1 sack allowed)

Recap: UK gets a little over 4 yards per carry and the 1st quarter touchdown pass as well.  The yardage numbers were solid but not spectacular but they continue to gain meaningful yards and put themselves in very manageable positions on 3rd down, as evidenced by the fact that UK faced 13 3rd downs on Saturday and 8 of them were 5 yards or less.

3rd Down and Long (6 yards or more)
Run: 2 rushes, 20 yards (converted 1 of 2)
Pass: 3-3, 76 yards, 1 TD (converted 2 of 3)

SEASON TOTALS
Run: 2 rushes, 20 yards (converted 1 of 2)
Pass: 6-9, 100 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT (converted 3 of 9)

Recap: Obviously the Bowden touchdown was the key play here but for UK to convert 3 of 5 chances in tough spots shows a lot about their dominance in this game.  Wilson showed his scramble ability as well.

3rd Down and Short (5 yards or less)
Run: 7 rushes, 60 yards (converted 6 of 7)
Pass: 1-1, 2 yards (converted 0 of 1)

SEASON TOTALS
Run: 11 rushes, 82 yards (converted 10 of 11)
Pass: 3-4, 14 yards (converted 2 of 4)

Recap: There is nowhere UK has shown more strength than on 3rd and short.  It has been a staple of the Mark Stoops tenure as the running backs have excelled and the offensive line has toughened up.  The only non-conversion on the ground was was the Cats were trying to run down the clock late in the 4th quarter.
