While last night left something to be desired, as Matt said on the post-game show, we’re starting from the bottom (Drake voice). Every single fan watching (hopefully) realized as the final seconds ticked off the clock that the rebuilding effort at Kentucky will take much longer than one off-season and the debut game of a new coach. While a coaching change was certainly the catalyst for rebuilding, the recruits brought in under Coach Stoops will ultimately determine whether or not it is successful. One such recruit is 4-star prospect Braxton Berrios out of North Carolina, who, according to Brian Lewis of Rant Sports, could remind Kentucky fans of… Randall Cobb?
To be clear, Lewis explains that Berrios doesn’t have the athletic ability of Cobb and is two inches shorter. Still, he has the versatility and explosiveness that makes him a threat to score in a number of different ways, a la Cobb:
Berrios is listed and recruited as a wide receiver, but is currently playing his senior season at quarterback…Berrios is not, nor will he have the many abilities of Randall Cobb. In fairness, not a lot of athletes do. However, Berrios could be the closest thing Wildcats fans have seen to Cobb since his departure.
Many other scouting reports (and Lewis himself) also compares Berrios to
Patriots Broncos slot receiver Wes Welker, who is certainly not a slouch in his own right, but anyone who can bring back memories of Randall Cobb to Commonwealth Stadium will certainly be welcomed with open arms.
So while the sting of last night’s loss is still there, it doesn’t hurt as bad knowing the quality of recruits we’re now pursuing. Finally, in non-UK news, never forget that for every NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver you wreck, there is an (alleged) girlfriend looking for payback:
