Braxton Berrios: The Next Randall Cobb?

NFSC Chicago

While last night left  something to be desired, as Matt said on the post-game show, we’re starting from the bottom (Drake voice). Every single fan watching (hopefully) realized as the final seconds ticked off the clock that the rebuilding effort at Kentucky will take much longer than one off-season and the debut game of a new coach. While a coaching change was certainly the catalyst for rebuilding, the recruits brought in under Coach Stoops will ultimately determine whether or not it is successful. One such recruit is 4-star prospect Braxton Berrios out of North Carolina, who, according to Brian Lewis of Rant Sports, could remind Kentucky fans of… Randall Cobb?

To be clear, Lewis explains that Berrios doesn’t have the athletic ability of Cobb and is two inches shorter. Still, he has the versatility and explosiveness that makes him a threat to score in a number of different ways, a la Cobb:

Berrios is listed and recruited as a wide receiver, but is currently playing his senior season at quarterback…Berrios is not, nor will he have the many abilities of Randall Cobb. In fairness, not a lot of athletes do. However, Berrios could be the closest thing Wildcats fans have seen to Cobb since his departure.

Many other scouting reports (and Lewis himself) also compares Berrios to Patriots Broncos slot receiver Wes Welker, who is certainly not a slouch in his own right, but anyone who can bring back memories of Randall Cobb to Commonwealth Stadium will certainly be welcomed with open arms.

So while the sting of last night’s loss is still there, it doesn’t hurt as bad knowing the quality of recruits we’re now pursuing. Finally, in non-UK news, never forget that for every NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver you wreck, there is an (alleged) girlfriend looking for payback:

Let’s hype some kids that we’re actually going to get. He slipped out of our reach a few months ago. Time to move on.

Yeah Braxton will probably end up at Oregon or Ohio St. In his first two games (he only played 1st half if each) he has 412 yards and 8 TDs. He is a beast but don’t think he comes to UK

Well UK looked terrible the other night, but on a good note: UL looked great today and WKU seems like a force to be reckoned with. With these recruits UK will be competitive soon. Plenty of reasons to be optimistic about the current state of Kentucky football.

He’s not coming to UK. Especially after Stoops just sawed his own head off for this season.

On a side note. How many blow-outs do you think UK will be a part of this year? If Western can nearly hang 40 on us, I figure USC, UGA, Alabama, Florida, Louisville, Vandy, and maybe Tenn? I’m not sure, because Tenn is pretty bad as well, but they still smacked us around last year. Either way, 6 thirty point losses is an achievement in and of itself. Let me know when it’s 2015 and the team MIGHT be fun to watch.

I look forward to seeing the results of the University of Tennessee versus Western Kentucky football game this Saturday at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville. This could be a clue how good Western Kentucky really is!

Timmons was billed as the next Cobb just a few months ago and this is silly. How can you compare one player to both Cobb and Welker? Who is the ’15 guy that UK is targeting that will be compared to Cobb or whoever else? I guess there’s a reason why I’ve never heard of Rant Sports.

He’s just like cobb but two inchs shorter and slower. He’s just like cobb but than compared to Welker who isn’t anything like cobb, sound like the only thing you mentioned that like Cobb is he has to play QB his Senior year
