Bobby Petrino would rather play UK at the beginning of the season
Our friends down I-64 unveiled their schedule for the 2014 season today, and afterwards, Bobby Petrino shared his thoughts. Not surprisingly, Bobby said that he would rather play the UK game at the beginning of the season than the end, as it’s scheduled for next season. After looking at Louisville’s schedule, it’s not hard to see why…that giant platter of cupcakes is long gone.
However, for Mark Stoops and the Cats, moving the game to the end of the season makes a world of sense. It gives the freshmen class time to mature, team to gel, and makes the rivalry the climax of the season instead of an afterthought of the non-conference run. Plus, UK will have a bye week before the game, whereas Louisville will travel to Notre Dame.
It may not happen next season, but I can’t think of a better way to end the season than beating the Cards.

Honest Bob can’t spend the entire off season scheming for the Cats now with all the cupcakes following. IMO, one of the biggest advantages for the Cards is now neutralized along with a few others accompanying their conference move.

Mitch had nothing to do with it. The move to that date was requested by the SEC and the ACC, according to a press release last summer.
Huge advantage! Because playing UT at the end of the season has always worked out so well for us. The team has always gelled by then. When we’re down to our 3rd and 4th string at every position after a brutal conference run.
We need to quit playing these guys at all. Rupp had the right idea. There is absolutely nothing to gain by playing them, especially in football where we play in the toughest conference in the country.

You Card fans love to compare apples to oranges when it benefits you, huh? Yeah, Ol’ Neckbrace did pretty good against a rebuilding (be it post Bassett or post Joker) UK squad when he has all off-season to prepare and cupcakes afterward. Since the game benefits UL more than UK, I don’t blame him or whoever for putting most of their prep time toward that end–especially since his main strong suit is Xs and Os anyway..
No more though, and no wonder he’s crying about it. Big advantage gone..
I think that has always been an underrated issue favoring UL. Props to UK and it has to stay that way– or if SEC adds another game–drop the damn dirty Birds all together…
I actually think we will beat louisville this year, their not in as good of shape as people think, they lose both starting safeties, their star quarterback and NO CLUE who the starter will be this coming year, their running backs are average, online isn’t very good at all, i do agree with the end of the season meet as the time to adapt to college play, speed and physicality, we win this year, and with the talent I don’t see us losing to petrino again PERIOD

UK fans serious question? UofL once was an independent then a mid major in CUSA and almost dropped football at one point, so why has UofL been so competitive with mighty SEC UK? And to think UofL is joining the ACC now. You guys seriously need to give credit where credit is due. Better question is could UK have done the same thing as UofL with Mitch at the helm?
If it wasn’t for the Governor’s Cup, UL probably would’ve already dropped football. It took playing UK for UL to make any progress at all. That’s where the credit is due.

That playing UL first game of the year was always idiotic. If it was such a good thing to play a rival first game of the year then a lot more teams would be doing it. Most all sports teams play exhibitions before playing a real game except in college football, so here you have to try to schedule winnable games (like last year with Western, which should have been one). I feel like in a year or two we’ll be beating UL 3 out of 4 times the way a landmark University should. Look at the rivals recruiting rankings now:UK#14 UL#36

It defies logic. And how does this game benefit only UL? You might think it is a feather in UL’s cap to beat a big bad SEC team but newsflash as Clint Hurtt said: you only participate in the SEC. Keeping bragging about recruiting class victories though. It won’t translate on the field. Bob will coach circles around Stupes.
UL will win games under Petrino, but it will come at a price – public embarrassment and humiliation for the university as a whole. I talked to a friend who is a WKU alum and fan even before the talk of Bobby P to UL, and he said that he has heard from multiple sources that Ol’ Bobby hasn’t changed a bit. Still chasing skirts and being a general ass to those who have to work for him. Of course, public embarrassment is becoming the norm for most UL fans – I guess they are becoming immune to it. Win at all costs.

Miami? overrated all year, UL blew them out in bowl game, and now gets them at home.
Notre Dame was barely a top 25 team, and probably wouldnt have been if not for the name on the jersey.
