Benny Snell competing for carries in the backfield

Landon Young has been the true freshman receiving most of the praise through the first half of camp, but there is another Wildcat rookie being mentioned as a player who is challenging the veterans ahead of him on the depth chart.

Running back Benny Snell, a three-star back out of Ohio, was the story out of Tuesday’s practice report for his play in the backfield. Offensive coordinator Eddie Gran said Snell is making a move up┬áthe rotation, one ESPN named the fifth best in the conference earlier today.

Gran plans to use two, maybe three, running backs, he says. If Snell is in contention for touches, that could mean he is already ahead of Mikel Horton and Sihiem King for the third spot behind Boom Williams and JoJo Kemp.

I say redshirt him. We have great depth at RB, why not put a shirt on him and let him get a year older and stronger.

I would think with Boom, Kemp, King and Horton we’d be good to RS Snell and Rose … but trust the coaches I guess. Plus, I guess King has not been there due to a death in the family and he could end up taking carries away from the true freshmen and put them back on the track to possible RS after a few more practices.

Snell wasn’t named the 5th best RB in the conference. ESPN said Kentucky – as a whole – has the 5th best running back corps in the conference. Should always link the story when you cite something for transparency.

That’s exactly what he said…. He said that “ESPN said that kentucky AS A WHOLE has the 5th best running back corps in the conference”. Not that Snell was named the 5th best back…. Should always make sure you don’t make yourself sound stupid while trying to correct someone else.
