WAKE UP! It’s gameday! Also Thursday. No, that’s not normal, but it’s part of what makes today so awesome. Tonight at 7 p.m. on ESPN, your University of Kentucky Wiiildcats will take on the Auburn Tigers under the lights at Commonwealth Stadium. The Tigers may be a shadow of their preseason top 10 selves, but that doesn’t mean a win over them wouldn’t be huge for the program. With ESPN’s primetime spotlight shining solely on the Commonwealth, Kentucky has a prime opportunity to make a statement in the SEC that could echo for years to come. If they seize it, we could be talking about this day for years to come; if not, well, it’ll just join the long list of UK football “What if”s.
If you don’t believe me when I say a win would be huge for the Cats, listen to Stoops’ comments from yesterday on the SEC teleconference:
“I think there’s a lot of people that watch this game. There’s not a whole heck of a lot of games on Thursday night, so the opportunity to play on national TV against Auburn, if we were fortunate enough to get a victory, would mean a great deal to our program, just the exposure and continue to build the excitement we have going on here.”
Exactly. Big day, guys.
What better way to get ready for the game than SEVEN HOURS of KSR pregame coverage?
KSR is taking over WLAP to get you ready in the most ridiculous manner possible. Here’s the schedule:
- 10-12 p.m.: Kentucky Sports Radio
- 12-1 p.m.: The KSR Football Podcast Crew – Nick Roush, Jared Lorenzen, Freddie Maggard and I – in studio to take your calls and talk football
- 1-3 p.m.: Matt, Ryan, and Drew travel around Lexington on the Gator to talk to fans while the Podcast crew takes calls in studio
- 3-5 p.m.: The KSR Pregame Show
And some of you say we don’t talk about football. Seriously, you better have the radio/streaming device on WLAP all day long.
We won’t find out who Auburn’s quarterback is until kickoff
Gus Malzahn is keeping the starting quarterback decision under wraps until kickoff, and at this rate, I’m pretty tired of the speculation, so whatever. Either Jeremy Johnson or Sean White will lead the Tiger offense. Kentucky will be prepared either way.
The weather looks perfect for football
They don’t make days better than that, so get on out to Commonwealth and enjoy it. And get there early because traffic will be awful.
Did Auburn star DE Carl Lawson travel to Lexington?
…Based on this picture, many Auburn fans believe so.
Who is Carl Lawson? He’s Auburn’s best pass rusher. Lawson had four tackles, including two for losses and a sack, and three quarterback hurries in Auburn’s season-opening win against Louisville, but injured his hip in the second quarter. Since then, he’s been out, but if that grainy picture is right, he made the 70-man travel roster and could potentially play tonight. Lawson sat out last season with an injury, but was an All-American his freshman year.
Maybe he’s just there for moral support?
A side storyline to keep in mind today…
…UK’s defensive line coach Jimmy Brumbaugh will be facing his alma mater. Brumbaugh was a First Team All-SEC standout at Auburn and was teammates with the Tigers’ current defensive backs coach Travaris Robinson. Current defensive coordinator Will Muschamp was a graduate assistant during Brumbaugh’s playing days and associate head coach and defensive line coach Rodney Garner recruited him to Auburn.
Teach ’em bout that new Kentucky football, Jimmy.
I need to watch the pregame hype video one more time
