Barnhart hopes to add more Thursday night home games in the future

After a much-needed hiatus this weekend, the Kentucky football team will resume action this Thursday at 7 PM in a pivotal game against Auburn.

Not only does Kentucky have a chance to significantly elevate themselves within the SEC, the game will also provide the program some valuable national exposure. Mitch Barnhardt certainly sees the merits of the situation, and spoke to Larry Vaught about his excitement for this week’s game:

These are unbelievable opportunities. The (TV) ratings are always solid. The better the game obviously the more ratings you’re going to get, but it’s become quite a Thursday night piece for a lot of folks who have sort of developed their Thursday nights around going home and getting dinner and watching the college football game. To be a part of that is fun. It’s a lot of fun,” Barnhart said.

Though there are some traffic/parking concerns, Mitch says that he hopes to add more of these contests in the future if all goes well.

It’s been said about pretty much every SEC game so far, but given the national audience and the bad taste left from the EKU game, a win this week would be HUGE for the program.

Go Cayts.

Those of you who swore awhile back that UK had played a home Thursday night football game before, make sure you click on the Larry Vaught link. It will clearly say UK has not. I know most of the ignorant people who were arguing are basketball fans that have climbed aboard the football bandwagon but please research something before you call someone else wrong. One of the few downsides of football being semi successful all the basketball fans who try to act like they’ve been football fans for years who ride the bandwagon until we lose and then jump off

I am excited about this game but Thursday games are pretty tough to get to when you have a three hour drive each way and kids and school and work. Especially when so many complain if some leave a little early. Bluegrass Parkway is full after night games with road warriors heading back to Western Kentucky. More of these and I might just quit getting season tix and just pick a few games I want to go to. High def and big screens are pretty nice.

Didn’t we used to make fun of other teams that played football games on Thursday nights?
