Two University of Kentucky football players earned SEC Player of the Week awards following the Cats’ win down in Columbia.
They are cornerback Derrick Baity, who took home SEC Defensive Player of the Week; and kicker Austin MacGinnis, the league’s Special Teams Player of the Week.
Baity caught the game-clinching interception and led the team with eight tackles, two of which forced a turnover on downs on 4th-and-1 situations for the Gamecocks. He shares this week’s honors with Vanderbilt’s LaDarius Wiley.
MacGinnis connected on all three of his field goal tries and both extra points to put 11 points on the board for the Wildcats. It is MacGinnis’ third SEC Player of the Week award.
This is the fourth time in school history that Kentucky has had at least two players honored for the same game.
