No, punters are not people. The old adage even holds true if you ask UK’s two punters, Max Duffy and Grant McKinniss.
McKinniss, a former four-star prospect, enters his third year in Lexington. Even though he’s older in the classroom, the traditional punter is not older than the Australian. The oldest man on the team, naturally that means Duffy has become the team’s dad.
“I’ve tried to be like a father figure to Grant since I’ve got here,” the former Australian footballer said at UK Media Day. “He’s immature. He doesn’t really know much about the world. I’ve put him under my wing and I’m trying to raise him as a man, especially coming from Australia. We’re obviously a lot more mature country.”
Max considers himself an Australian humanitarian, even though his first few months in the states have been quite a learning experience. He often has to ask Grant for pointers when cultures clash. Duffy has discovered America’s love for fast food and he already has a favorite. “I like DQ because I like ice cream.”
Duffy’s logic is sound.
