An early rendering of the new football training facility

Early this morning, we found out UK’s plans for a new $45 million football training facility, which the Board of Trustees will vote on Friday at 1 p.m.  The new facility will be attached to the Nutter Field House on the east end next to Commonwealth Stadium, and the current Nutter Training Facility will be repurposed for other sports.

What could all of this look like?  UK included this rendering in its November 2013 Master Plan.  From the details posted this morning:

The project will include a new two-story structure and two practice fields with an adjoining drill area. The new facilities will be located at the east end of the existing Nutter Field House. The two-story structure for the football program will house administrative offices, locker spaces, team meeting areas, training areas, high performance and weight room spaces, equipment rooms, a hydrotherapy room, player locker rooms, lounge facilities, an academic lounge/study area, and an entrance lobby with enhanced visitor amenities.

Obviously, once the project is approved, and an architect and builder hired, we’ll get a better rendering. The facility will likely be named after the primary donor (Joe Craft?), but for now, let’s have some fun and come up with our own names for it.

Would the Papa Brooks Training Center and Tomato Gardens work?

Round abouts work great – it’s a shame the USA doesn’t use them in more places.
Stupid red-light planning is just bad planning

I am honored that the northeast wing of this facility will be named in my honor. I trained many a UK playa in my day.

Rich Brooks needs to have something named after him, even if it’s just the Recruiting Room

I still don’t understand the love for Rich Brooks, based on his record here. He won two games against teams in the SEC East not named Vanderbilt in seven years, and some people want to name facilities after him?

This must be in place, like, 4 years down the road. BCTC is still there and uses the E-Lot next to it. I know the C6 lot is right there too. This just seems a bit, unexplained. I’ll wait for later renderings.

How about the Bear Bryant Football Center? How does CM Newton get his name on the football field and Bear Bryant is relegated to an occaisionally seen LED placque in the “ring of honor.” I guess “Bear Bryant’s Cadillac Ranch” would be an inappropriate name for the new facility on a couple of levels

That’s funny… for the cost of a Cadillac, UK might be Alabama today in football… And to think, that YouTube dude who hates Tennessee would be wearing a UK shirt!

Love all those trees, but I assume they are much like the children holding baloons in many architectural renderings and we will never really see them.

Ohhhh another cutback in tailgaiting/parking/partying areas……….what are they thinking??? Just because TENNESSEE has one we need to follow. 45MM is a PILE of money. Cant wait until the stadium SHRINKS in seating!!!! Does anybody care????

Dude, that’s the norm now, reduced seating and better facilities. Why have even more empty seats from the student section? And these NICE facilities is what we NEED!! Attract recruits = better team = more reason to tailgate!!

I agree. Ony UK’s Athletic Department would spend $110 miilion on a stadium to reduce seating by 6,000. Why not just rope off 6,000 seats! Those seats were filled when we had decent teams. Are we just giving up and saying we believe we’ll never have good enough teams again to draw 67,000?

Dude, go to the master plan site & look at all the parking they’re adding. Check stuff out before you bitch about it. I didn’t know before today either, but didn’t act like I did. http://www.uky.edu/EVPFA/Facilities/MasterPlan/documents/UK_masterplan_2013-10-28_compressed.pdf

I hope they don’t put trees in between the rows at Commonwealth! Bird doo doo all over the cars and less parking spots! We need more pavement and less grass and trees!
They got a great plan…lets hope they get done soon.

Can we please change the mid field logo? do an oversized UK or perhaps the old school wildcat claw? have either of these been talked about before as something we could do for a little change??

What is the building in the bottom left corner of the picture. BCTC is out of the picture. A classroom building that UK has in their five year plan?

I’m actually surprised to see a Greek Village included in the master plan. I have no opinion of the Greek community one way or another, but I’ve spent a lot of time on many college campuses in the country, and all the vibrant campuses have noticable Greek communities and homes. Say what you will about being obnoxious, spoiled, paying for your friends, etc … but well done Greek communities serve a purpose and provide much needed character to campus. It’s nice to see one included.

Parking is already hard to come by around the stadium, now with all the pretty little green trees it will become even more limited.

Roundabouts are safer and keep traffic flowing. If you can’t navigate them then your a dumbass. Trees beautify the campus, this isn’t a pro stadium it’s a college campus. If you don’t like trees on a college campus then go to a UofL game. If you are bitching about losing seats and parking than you are hopeless. Just quit being a fan. Thank God people in charge of UK will NEVER listen to you.

I knew before I even clicked on the comments section that there would be all these gripes and complaints. All you people that do nothing but bitch, bitch, bitch about anything and everything just need to go away. Pull for some other school. You are the same ones that if we beat a team in basketball by thirty points, call in after the game saying we should have won by forty and so and so should have played more minutes. You remind me of the little cartoon character that walks around with the black cloud over his head all the time. Is there anything in the world that you don’t bitch about. Not.

Some of you people kill me. You have no idea wtf you’re talking about & would bitch about the plans no matter what they were. If you look at that rendering & get mad you’re an idiot. You bitch about parking? I have been at CWS all but two games since Couch’s senior year & I’ll guaran-damn-tee you parking hasn’t been an issue for at least 4 years! Some trees would’ve been good to hide some of the empty lots. As JT would say, “If you were a man, I’d punch you in the face!” What’s the most talked about SEC & one of nationally tailgating environments there is? Ole Miss and “The Grove!” Know what that is? Know why it’s not called “The Giant Empty Parking Lot?” Freaking dip shits.
