Alvonte Bell to miss spring football

Mark Stoops’ defensive line will be without one of its veteran players and projected starters when the team goes through spring ball in the coming months.

Alvonte Bell, a three-time starter in 2016, will sit out this spring after undergoing knee surgery in the offseason. Bell suffered the injury in the TaxSlayer Bowl, when Georgia Tech’s offensive line was taking out UK d-linemen left and right.

Jen Smith over at The Herald-Leader, who first reported the story, confirmed with UK that the surgery went well and a full recovery is expected.

One of these days, an injured athlete will sue a school and its coach for teaching chop blocking in these triple option systems (this means you, Navy and GT). The fact that it’s not illegal under the NCAA football rules would not necessarily, IMO, insulate someone from being held responsible for injuries which are reasonably expected when you go after someone’s knees.
