Air Raid unleashed, Cats win big

What a day. Kentucky football regained plenty of momentum in week two following the disappointing loss to open the season last time out. Mark Stoops and D.J. Eliot had the defense clicking, and Neal Brown unleashed the Air Raid to huge success.

Kentucky poured it on the Redhawks, winning 41-7. The game was a blowout in the first half, but scoring was limited in the latter 30 minutes. The Wildcats offense piled up 675 yards of offense and was highlighted by huge plays from Javess Blue and Jeff Badet.

Penalties were a big issue for the Cats; a total of 11 flags were thrown against the Cats for 117 yards, many of which were the personal foul variety. Another red flag was the special teams, specifically the punt return game. Daryl Collins fumbled deep in UK territory, leading to the only Miami score of the game. Javess Blue replaced Collins later in the game and he had a handful of miscues leading to poor field position for UK.

But the stars of the show were Mark Stoops recruits, including notable performances by Blue, Badet, Ryan Timmons, Jojo Kemp, and Za’Darius Smith.

Nick Roush will be by with more later, and stay tuned for the post-game show coming soon.

Good win, BUT….Marshall beat them 52-14. Western just lost by 30 to UT. Hard to say how much better we actually are.

“Kentucky football regained plenty of momentum in week two” – I mean a win is a win but come on…you don’t regain plenty of momentum against Miami of Ohio. Hyperbole much?

Out of all that went right today the D still had not one turnover against maybe the worst team in college football

Doesn’t get much more entertaining (by UK standards) than that first quarter.

#1 – Western was a different team today. Hearing “Rocky Top” that many times in one quarter will crush anyone’s soul.

Cats will get 3 wins at the most as this is a work in progress. Really like that Kemp kid and Timmons. The future for UK is looking good

    @ ColoradoCat…

Not that it means anything anyway, but if you want to compare scores between 2 completely different games….UK’s defense held Miami scoreless, and they only had 8 total 1st downs. If not for a boneheaded play by Collins (1 of many by special teams thus far this season), it would have been a shutout.

I know everyone is still complaining…but if we had of played that style of offense we would have beat western. I mean we had like 200 yards of offense in 4th vs wku after smith was inserted and they opened up the play book

Hate to put a damper on this party, but WKU just got bent over in knoxville and took it to the tune of 52-20.

UK now the favorite to win it all in the minds of KSR and many fans-air-raid unleashed? Come on, they beat up on an utterly miserable team while the opponent that beat them last week was destroyed by a mid-level sec team. This kind of instant enthusiasm and giddiness is one reason Ihave never been able to embrace the football team-the fans and commentators border on delusional at times.

WKU had a stretch that they committed 5 turnovers in six offensive plays….they still scored 20

WKU beating us at neutral site/ more of a home game not the same as going to rocky top and beating even a mid level UT…..those WKU players probably pooped their pants when they entered the stadium….huge difference. I mean the mil bucks beat the heat last year and the heat beat the spurs… that logic says the bucks would have beat the spurs as well….good talk

Geez, enjoy the victory. We won the way we were supposed to and did gain some momentum as Stuart said. 675 yards, 3rd most in school history. How is that not “momentum” for the Air Raid. Some people just refuse to be happy. And, the D held them to 116 yards and 1 for 16 on 3rd down. How many years have we complained about getting off the field on 3rd down? I would say that is progress.

Like Kent State last season, it’s nice to have a week where we see (almost) everything go right. After last week, I wasn’t expecting 41-7 this week. Now we have Louisville + the SEC games to try and make something happen. It’s all about seeing improvement from week to week in 2013, and that’s what we have seen thus far. Go Cats!

  21. Yes 14, we all think UK is gonna win it all now! Dude, get a grip. We all understand (most anyway) that we have a long way to go. Granted, Hammer over stated it a bit, but a W is better than an L!

I’m still confused on who our qb is going forward. Is it gonna be a 2 qb system from here on out? Numbers never lie, Max is the better qb for this system, look at the numbers from the 1st.2 games

Well done coaching staff and players! Great improvement. Need to clean up special teams… looking forward to some better play in that department next week. Hope commonwealth stadium is sold out for the UL game. The freshmen looked awesome today along with smith and blue. Keep up the good work!! Cats!

Good game for UK. The 2 QB’s were a good call today. Got to cut down on the penalties though. I predicted 6 wins this year and am sticking with that prediction. Gators, with their WR coach, look beatable. hahahaha

Its a win, Miami might not have been the toughest team, But if Joker was here this team would have scored 17 points. You have to give Stoops time, Let better recruits come in. Some fans complain when we lose and win. Support the team and give them some time it doesn’t change over night.

I know Miami sucks but if we would have played this offense last week, we would have beaten WKU.
I hope they can build on this.

Great game! Except for the punt returning and some stupid penalties that was exactly what the doctor ordered. Obviously there was a talent gap, but these young guys needed some confidence.

They just need to build on the things they did right and fix the things they didn’t. Next week is going to be extremely difficult, but with that offense we always have a punchers chance.

I agree lonnieb, offense should have let it rip against wku. All we can ask for is improvement from week to week against good competitionand the wins will come later down the road. GO CATS

If I read only the box score and the website posts, you would be fooled into thinking UK was a great team. I was AT the game and I can assure you, Miami OH is HORRIBLE. Every throw we made was to a wide open man. Our special teams were awful, just awful. The penalties were awful.

I am sure I will get slammed for this, but this UK team is awful and we are going to get our asses kicked by 30+ every week for 4 weeks in a row.

2-10 and we have no shot to beat a SEC team, not even Missou.

Stoops may be a good recruiter (if he can keep them) but based on poor execution, poor fundamentals, and tons of penalties etc, he has a helluva long way to go in being a head coach.

This team sucks. So tired of year after year of this.

Ken, you need to calm down bra. Benefit of the doubt…we did score 41 points, even if it was against a bad team. We’ve been holding back our playbook before our first big game it looks like. But we aren’t supposed to be good anyway, if you really thought we were going to be different after two games into a new after coming off of a 2-8 Joker season, then you don’t know how football generally works. Otherwise you are just being a debbie downer and you are hurting this program with your negative attitude. Negativity breeds more negativity and misery breeds more misery.
