1. The Freshman Are Here To Play
A lot of the highly touted freshman are likely to redshirt and develop, right? Wrong. The freshman are here and their time is now as Stoops told Matt as many as 13 true freshman could see the field this season. Matt Elam, Boom Williams, and Mikel Horton seem like shoe-ins to see some major minutes but there are plenty of candidates that could make an impact. With so much talent growing each year the next four years in Lexington are set up to be a renaissance of the football program.
2. A Quarterback Battle
When Big Z interviewed both Patrick Towles and Drew Barker earlier today on KSR one thing was made abundantly clear, both guys think they deserve the job. Patrick sounded like the savvy vet that thought he had won the job. Drew sounded like the confident kid who felt like the best talent on the roster. Stoops made it known that the race was still wide open and all three candidates are getting equal reps. The staff spoke with a knowing tone that they could win games and win this season so perhaps redshirting Mr. Barker isn’t an factor in this battle. Whoever does win the job seemed ready to take the reigns and not look back.
3. Kentucky Has Major Mo
Last year’s media day introduced some much needed swagger back into the program but didn’t translate into wins on the field. This year heads are held even higher going into Week 1 and things seem to be firing on all cylinders. The administration believes, the players believe, and for fans momentum seems to be reaching never before seen heights. If the Cats can produce some big time wins this year then it’s not hard to picture Stoops and Co. reaching their vision.
If Media day didn’t get you excited for the upcoming year you should check your pulse. What was your favorite part from a loaded day?
