Zion Williamson is a cheat code

It should be illegal to have a Zion Williamson.

Duke’s star freshman is not a real human being and it’s unfair that he gets to play among the likes of regular student-athletes in an NCAA event. Williamson is like Bo Jackson in Tecmo Super Bowl or like the Golden State Warriors in the present day NBA — it’s cheating.

Williamson is an otherworldly physical specimen and last night we learned he is a damn good basketball player, too. There were concerns with how his game would translate from dunking on high schoolers in South Carolina to having to play actual basketball at the collegiate level, and he proved to us all that he’s more than a YouTube sensation. Kid’s got game. It just sucks that Kentucky had to be on the other end of the Zion experiment in the Champions Classic.

So to all of the Zion doubters out there, a group that included myself until yesterday, it’s time to own up to the freezing cold takes. Williamson is a beast and he (and his teammates) will be the talk of college basketball for the next five months.

And the scariest part about him?

He’s not even as good as R.J. Barrett.

But to you, he was too fat though!? Disappointed in the loss, but us being scared of them physically and not responding concerns me bc we have a lot of big “fat” (as drew would say) guys that we will play all yr, especially in conference play. Hope we turn it around. Go Cats

Zion is not a cheat code. He has weaknesses that were apparent last night. Gotta stay in front of him. His first step is crazy fast, but if he didn’t get you on his hip, he doesn’t finish. Stay in front of that first step.

That’s obviously going to be easier said, than done considering he’s a better shooter than he’s given credit for.

I never said it was easy, just that it was possible.

Stay out front? Pull up shoot a jumper in your face. Stay tight to him. He blows right past you.

There are few defenders strong and quick enough to pull that off. So good luck with that. If you could somehow do that, he will just throw it to R.J. Barrett, and then you have another mismatch.

We just had an off night that’s all. Duke was in the right mind frame and we were not. The season is not over & Duke is not the champs . It’s waay too early to say such things . We’re gonna be great & not even resemble the team we looked like last night (by February)

The National Championship is Duke’s to lose; there’s no way Kansas can beat them.

1st reasonable comment I’ve seen. All these “fans” are so quick to jump ship it kind of makes you wonder who is a real fan

How did Duke seemingly gain recruiting success overnight a few seasons ago? It’s never been the style and I don’t see how you pitch Duke to a one and done player, so it seems to raise quite a few red flags given they are competing with us for the top class every year now. Considering Zion’s name getting tossed around a federal investigation, perhaps my instincts aren’t far off…

Yeah that’s what I was dancing around, but I’m fairly certain he’s it. Should be telling when Duke’s recruiting falls off next year.

Why all of the Duke butt kissing? They beat us. Move on and get Zions package out of your mouth, KSR!

Because these kids grew up thinking Coach K is the greatest basketball coach ever and he’s the media darling of coaching. He is top 5 but not the greatest. Rupp was just as good and won 5 titles with mostly Kentucky kids. He may be the best of his era but not necessarily of all time.

Our time is over.. 23 first round picks and one championship due to a Coach who doesn’t prepare his team with set plays or fundamentals.

The reason we are not getting top Tier talent is simple..
These kids want to learn the fundamentals from a great coach that teaches x and o’s.

Cal says come here..I’ll rely on your talent, we will throw the ball out and see what happens..then with my connections I’ll get you to the NBA.

This is exactly why the top kids are going to Duke.

Phew, this take is so hot, I can feel it through my keyboard.

This is objectively false and I believe that this person should have to wear this comment on a sign around their neck so that the rest of us know how bad of a take this was and can get a good laugh in.

Geez, man. Have you watched basketball in the past 20 years?

Mac, cking is not way off base. Cal sat comatose on the bench all night while our team ran amok. This is not tennis…you can coach during the game.
When Williamson played in the 1st half with two fouls, how about telling our guys to go at him?
How about telling the guards to pass the ball, and stop jacking up 23 footers.
How about telling them to stay with their man, and stop leaving him to try to get some half-ass double team?
I was saddened and disappointed, and surprised actually with Cal’s effort last night.

I’m all for breaking down the game. But once you go solely to an entire article about a Duke player with their highlights, that’s crossing the line. But, anything for the clicks right?

You want to break down the game, here ya go. It was said when Duke signed the best three players in the class, they were ball hogs and there wouldn’t be enough balls on the court. Last night Duke was well coached, and played like a team; passing the ball and looking for the open man. Our team played as selfishly as any team I’ve ever seen.

I agree runningunnin, we are quick to run our mouths as fans and predict all these things before they happen, but last night Duke smacked us and we did nothing and then they took our girl, and we did nothing! I have never as a fan been that embarrassed/shocked to the point that my stomach dropped. Duke is special and we learned this on game 1 and they have a whole season to get better. Ive never seen anything like it and it was dominating and they were thriving off each others energy, I hate to admit it, but coach K has got them all to buy in and they are in kill mode.

if UK wasn’t scared and actually played defense, they could have controlled these guys. Absolutely the worst defense I have seen out of a UK team. Someone take a charge!

Williamson, Barrett and Reddish could have beaten KY whole Team last night! Just the 3 of them!!!

As much as I hate to admit……..Duke will win it all!!! Ky will be lucky to reach the elite 8

    GO CATS!!

The sad thing is this loss means more than just losing last night. Recruits trying to decide between KY and Duke watched this game and it surely had to leave a perception on them for their future.

Well, at least we can hold out hope that they don’t have a perfect season and then people can mercilessly attack K for years about failing to win like they did Cal.

The question I have is, how do they play so well in the Bahamas, practice for months and then come out and look like they have 2 guys that have even played the game before? I think Herro will play better as things go on.

    My Concerns:
    – UK has to have a high quality PG. Is there one on the roster?
    – Is there a reliable deep threat or volume scorer for those nights Herro is off?
    – Nick Richards is another major concern. There’s no reason he shouldn’t be a good player, but he’s…not.
    – This defense…the pick and roll switches and “positionless” basketball hasn’t worked against athletic teams.
    – Stubbornness with man-to-man. I get that it helps their draft status to play man-to-man, but it’s ok to play more than 2 minutes of a zone D in a game if that helps win games.

Duke is clearly the best team in college basketball after the first game of the season, but they shot lights out against a team that played like middle school girls. They will lose games this year despite all that talent. The problem is Kentucky has a long way to go or they will lose when it counts most!

This was about as much about UK’s lack of defense as it was their “superstars”. Heck, even the Duke scrubs came in and looked like world beaters.

Looks like quickly needs to play then entire game – I see his development to be key to our season , his ceiling is pretty high. If Hagans can mature enough he could be a 2 the way he can drive to the basket. Then keldon at 3. Reid is a solid 4. Looks like Montgomery is the same as quickly in that he needs to start & play the whole game to let him develop that high ceiling

The only way to beat DUKE would be for Zion’s snow bunny girlfriend to press charges against him.

NCAAMB has become like all free games pay to win but you also need to be buddies with the games operators. I hate cheaters and think they should be stricken from the games exsistance but it’s redundant to blaim Coach “K”ill yo momma for buying the players he needed when he knows the ad over Duke owns the NCAA, and it’s investigation committee. In the words of a 9 yr old me “It ain’t cheating if the codes are in the game and they don’t punish you for it”.
