(UPDATE) Your First “Calipari to the NBA” Offseason Rumor

After each of a John Calipari’s eight seasons at Kentucky, UK fans have heard reports and rumors that Calipari could leave Lexington for the NBA. This season has been surprisingly quiet, until now.

ESPN New York’s Ian Begley reports that Calipari “intermediaries” reached out to the Knicks following the termination of Phil Jackson.

Kentucky head coach John Calipari reached out to Knicks through intermediaries to express interest in the Knicks presidency, per ESPN league sources. The Knicks do not have interest in Calipari at the moment, per league sources. Presumably, Calipari would want to coach as well if he took over as president.

The Knicks aren’t interested and the only contact is through intermediaries?  Fine by me. This is nothing UK fans haven’t heard before.  Expect a Calipari tweet within the hour.

When Kyle Tucker reached out to UK for comment on the story, this is what they had to say.

Cal reached out to them? Yea, thats a little strange. We all know he’s sticking around at least until his son graduates. This would floor me if true.

Or Cal is just a genius and this is him keeping his name, and essentially Kentucky, in the news while he’s in Egypt

A bit worrisome IF he did actually reach out to them… but I don’t see it happening regardless

    This rumor happens 24 x 7/ 365.

If you love him, let him go.

Our vexation, as fans is the following:

If he loves you, he’ll be back.

    Insecurities and distrust.

Did you ever see John Turturro in the jail scene from ‘To Live and Die in L.A.”?

You can guess the next lines.

I can’t see him leaving UK. He makes great money, very successful, and is a basketball god in KY. What more could you want? Lol

Intermediaries basically means Cal’s agent called Knicks to gage their interested and see just how stupid of an offer they might make. Phil was getting 12 mil per year. Dolan might have been willing to offer 15 for Cal. Them agent would turn around and tell Cal and see if he would bite.
