Yahoo says the Kings want John Calipari

Hey, you know what we don’t need? Another John Calipari to the NBA rumor! Unfortunately, we just got one from Yahoo’s Adrian Wojnarowski, who cites league sources that say the Sacramento Kings are “probing” John Calipari to gauge his interest in taking over the franchise’s front office and coaching jobs:

Calipari has been communicating with owner Vivek Ranadive and other members of the Kings ownership group in recent weeks, league sources said. Calipari has listened to scenarios with which the Kings could offer him complete control of the franchise’s fledgling basketball operations to go along with coaching, league sources said.

Woj says no formal offer has been made, but the Kings are well aware it may take $10 million+/year to get Calipari to consider leaving Kentucky.

Usually I dismiss these rumors, but when it comes from Woj…Boogie, Willie, and possibly Bledsoe? Uggggh.

If anyone honestly worries about this that’s on them at this point.

The Kings can’t have John Calipari!! We already gave them Boogie and WCS. Don’t get greedy Kings.

If this was happening a month ago, I’d be more worried. I don’t see Cal leaving right now when summer practice is about to start, and we’re not that far from the start of the season.

Naw. I think this is more about Divac + Ranadive sending a message through the media to George Karl that he’s replaceable, so either make nice with Boogie or they’ll find someone else.

The part that disappoints me is that Cal has been talking to them. This must be why recruiting was so hard this year.

If someone is interested in me and knows they will have to pay me more than $10 million a year to leave, I’m more than happy to listen.

This has literally just begun over the last week, so how would it have affected recruiting over the course of the season?? The only certainties in life are death, taxes, and Coach Cal to the NBA rumors.

I think our recruiting class turned out pretty well. You can’t expect him to land platoons every year. I’ll “settle” for Skal, Briscoe, Matthews, Murray, and Mulder.

I imagine management went to Boogie and asked what they could do to smooth things over after the Karl fiasco. Thus, they draft Willie, are looking at Bledsoe, and are chatting with Cal. If nothing else, they can go back to him and say, “Well, we tried.”

Oh gosh! Do not want to even imagine this. Would our current commits leave? Who in the world would we get to coach this time of year? Got a feeling the sky is about to fall.

No way they look at two coaches who have a grand total of 1 year as a head coach.

Wonder if recruits have signed LOI or just ‘in-aid’ papers. Sucks for them

I believe either Coach O or Payne will be the next UK head coach. Anyway the timing of this is wrong for the Kings unless they are willing to wait until next season. No way Coach Cal leaves at this point in the year.

  16. Kevin C.

Sure…he’s gonna leave UK, to go coach the 4th best NBA team in California, and potentially 2 former UK players he had a hard time coaching.

You people are wacko. Cal is not going anywhere right now. No way he’d leave after recruiting these guys and telling them he’d be there this year. If he left now every word he has said before would be totally perceived to be a lie. Surely he won’t do what Ricky P did.
